On a point of pedantry, they were never "Royals" when Tier 4 was regionalised.

Surely it would have been tier 3.

Yes, accept that - it was tiers 3 & 4 combined, effectively.

Good that this has survived the cull.

Shout out to the mods.

1962/63. I still have a newspaper celebrating our 1978/79 promotion from Div 4, our first promotion for over 50 years.
Now that's when fans really were fans, not the pampered, spoilt "we demand the premiership or you're not ambitious enough" types of today. Mind you, there weren't many of us!

I find it hard to believe that when SJM took over our average home gate in a season was 4,000.

Whoops. 75/76 it was. At my age I'm surprised I remember anything.

Got dragged to my first game April '99 with my wicked step father when we lost to Northampton at home 0-1. We really were sh!t.

STH every season thereafter

I sing the "We all follow the Reading over land and sea" chant even though i don't attend many games home or away.

Last home game was Reading v Norwich
Last Away game was Hull v Reading

Since 78-79 season we won the league set records. 25,000 in EP for the Soton cup game. Thought it was always like this. All down hill from there. But at least I can say I was one of the 1700 who watched us play Preston at home in 82 for our lowest ever home league attendance.

This is a long time ago ! my first game was in 1963 against Port Vale, I think it was Mick Travers that got the winner in a 1-0 win. Same day as the centennial England v Rest of The World game at Wembley. The Reading match that evening started about 30 mins late due to the Port Vale team bus getting caught up in the Wembley post match traffic. I have been through all the mires that Reading can put you through, how many of you remember the change of colours, for a few years we abandoned the blue and white hoops and played in Sky Blue.

are you referring to the Courage sponsored days of Trevor Senior and Dean Horrix (RIP) during the change of Strip?

Still have my flag from the Simod cup final! What a journey that was, throughout the rounds and then te day itself, playing Luton off the pitch and outnumbering their fans at Wembley three to one.

No mate these were the early days 1965-69, the times of George Harris, Peter Sylvester and Steve Death, Sky Blue shirts and shorts. The courage strip was was in the mid to late eighties, must admit forgot about that one !

I was a Spuds fan till I was about ten, then started going to Reading 93/94 season. Had a season ticket since 94/95 season, and have never seen Reading lose.

first game was in Div 3 in 1969, aged 8. Mansfield or Port Vale, not sure which, I saw both that season.

First full (home) season was the magical 75/76.

Only ever saw us play twice in the Premiership (Newcastle home and away in the first season).

I am still waiting for us to be shite. So far so good. The lowest that Reading have been in the league since I started following them was last January before we went on our solid run to finish out the season.
