Trying to get the thread back on track, on teh way back from Sheffield last night I realised what it is with all the "bad luck" we' are/aren't getting now.

It's that we're not dominating games and closing them out, so too many are finely balanced right to the end - and that's where luck has a much more significant impact.

When you're 3 goals ahead then giving away a didgy penalty doesn't matter much so it doesn't get remembered - but when you're one nil up with two minutes to go the effect of that dodgy penlaty is massive.

Which is exactly the point a lot of people have made. Despite our apparently good defensive record, we conceed in most games and fail to score more than once in most games. This equals not enough wins and too many draws and loses to really challenge at the top.

It's a bit bonkers seeing as McDermott appears to be a great believer in always pushing for a win, even at the risk of a heavy defeat. If only we converted more of our chances into goals... be handy to have someone other than Long who could score more than 10 goals in the season for us. Frightening given this is the first time Long's really looked like hitting double figures.

and feel a sense of outrage when someone brings up football. Just have to

Double figures is 10, yeah? And Long has already scored 17 goals this season, plus one three more penalties, two scored.

Odd statement that bold one, as it looks highly likely Long will sail past 20, never mind 10.

I've just seen the "snowcock" thing. Deary me that is some weak shit. You could have gone with:

Snow-balls
Snowbollocks
No-balls
Snowlolz

Or any other variation thereof.

Spacey will be turning in Pere Lachaise at this outrage.

Snowball,
Did you notice that one of the sides you expect us to beat (Scunthorpe)beat high-flying Forest last night?
It just shows (MrA's point)that it is unwise to dismiss sides below us in the table when of course they may well be fighting against relegation.
If we beat Watford and Millwall that would show to me that on current form we are better than some teams around us-it says no more than that.
It would also say that we become currently say 10th (depending upon other results)at this time of year.
It would not say much more than that in terms of our prospects for the rest of the season but it does what the dreadful play-off system is designed to do-keep alive the interests of about a dozen teams in the vague hope that promotion might be achieved behind QPR.

Yes I did. It makes it more likely that we'll now finish second

I wonder how long it takes for mods to realise that we now have an AE insider thread on the team board 8)

But it DOES. Absolute fact.

It WON'T HAPPEN, absolutely not, nor will sixth place, but it is absolutely true that Forest's defeat increases our mathematical chance of making second (from a million to one, say, to 500,000-1). I just thought it would be fun to post an absolute fact, watch it mis-read, see it mis-quoted, and feel my new @ss-hole being reamed (the old one is worn out).
