Man. Remember when he was a non-footballer?

This is a quote from the Guardian article on another thread:

"When Jimmy Kebe arrived at the club the Malian winger was like a cut-price Nwankwo Kanu – blessed with ungainly ability but unable to do anything effective with it. McDermott has backed him with unrelenting belief and Kebe is now unrecognisable."

Didn't suggest you did. "I agree with Brendy", remember? I just like to remember these things whenever I accidentally take the Team Board seriously.

It was obvious when Kebe arrived he was to change Reading FC, the game of football, and all human endeavour forever. Kebe is holding a mirror up for us to take a look at ourselves and ask all the big questions. Kebe changed everything. A 'Year Zero' moment.

He is the fresh prince of Mali.

I would photoshop his head over Will Smith's head, but it's been done.

Kebe's back to normal, since his injury he has not looked the same player that we saw at the end of last season and the start of this.

Kebe's form has been a bit of a worry though brendy, even you can see that can't you?

He had that excellent run of games last season, where McDermott worked miracles to turn him into a consistent threat. I think he started the season pretty well but I don't think he's looked anywhere near that level since October time (I just did a quick search on here for when his form and injury was being discussed).

If we're to go on a charge for the play offs we need the Jimmy of this time last season back. He was a genuine threat against every team during that run but ever since that niggly injury that made him miss a few games he's been a shaddow of his former self, I don't think he's even had those flashes of brilliance in a game that he had when he was shit!

imo was awesome preinjury- has taken him a while to get back to performing- still no way near his best, but even so still one of the best wingers in the league, and still scoring and creating.

Isn't that pretty much what Sandhurst said above before you called him a div?

I'm worried about Kebe to be honest. You say he's still scoring and creating but he's scored 1 goal since September and I don't recall too many key contributions in goals or chances.

He's less comedy than he was before, but I still don't think he's the threat he was. Some of that may be down to defenders sussing him out, teams doubling up on him or kicking him out of the game. Whatever the reason he's not been as effective and this squad doesn't have enough in it to scare oppositions without Kebe back to his best.

I'm hoping he recaptures some form and continues to prove me wrong. I'm not quite seeing that yet though.

lol!
maybe- its my default reaction. old school crowthorne/sandhurst rivalry

i probably agree- but the thread was a humerous tribute to kebe though, not an in depth analysis of the man.
and that post was in that spirit.

im much more concerned with the match by match ploy of him coming inside in the second half, and shane long swapping out there.
leaving no one on the wing to support or recieve the ball from griffin.

hes also spending much more time in his own half, tracking back and tackling.
and suffers from us not having the creative midfielder who can capitalise on him being marked by 2/3 players
he is also hacked mercilessly by nearly every team we play.

not that he needs me to make excuses for him. the man is god.

I first realised the glory of Kebe during the 0-0 draw away at Millwall.

Fair enough brendy. I've been staying away from the thread to let you enjoy your worshiping in peace but thought it was a bit of an over-reaction to half decent point!

On a positive note though, I do agree that Kebe's been more dilligent in his defending (I'm sure Griffin growling at him has had an impact on that front) and that, as I've said for a long time, our lack of quality elsewhere makes for a more difficult job for Kebe and McAnuff.

Yesterday's 'performance' from Kebe was surely further proof that 'the greatest man who ever lived' :| is desperate for a move and now cannot be bothered to put the requisite effort and application in. Au revoir Jimmy, a move to somewhere like Nancy will be particularly apt.

How can you be sure it's a lack of effort that's hampering him?

Well yeah to be fair, his return to the poor form of old directly coincides with his return from injury IMO. The only game I can recall being particularly enthusiastic about his performance in recent months was Cardif away. He's a cert to leave in the summer I reckon.
