RUMOUR - Craig Davies

by Wimb » 01 Mar 2011 16:28

Skysports.com understands Reading are eyeing a move for Chesterfield hotshot Craig Davies.

Davies is out of contract at the end of the season and, as he is 24, he is available on a free transfer this summer.

Davies has enjoyed a superb season with Chesterfield, netting 17 goals and helping them to the top of League Two.

A number of clubs in the Championship and League One are thought to be monitoring Davies' situation and are ready to make a move for him on a free transfer.

Reading are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by offering the Wales international a lucrative contract to make the move to the Madejski Stadium.
Chesterfield would be loath to lose the former Manchester City trainee, but face the possibility of seeing the player leave for nothing in the summer.

Meh, happy enough taking a gamble on a free.

Had a spell in Italy with Verona a few years back.

Decent scorer in the lower leagues. Can play on the right of midfield if needed.

AS long as we don't go mental and offer him a top end salary (on our scale) not got a problem with picking him up on a free... is he too old for the tribunal compensation... is that under 24, or 24 and under?

This lad has been around a bit. He has spent time with nine clubs already and he is only 24.

Form has been patchy and his current spell with Chesterfield has been his best. Career figures of 47 goals from 187 appearances.

Goodbye Long then if Davies signs.

Long is gone this summer no matter what. Hunt and Manset are the future, Willams and A.Nother will provide the back up. I can't wait for another mid-table mediocre season next season.

Tell you what, that boy can finish!

There's a lot of clips on that video. Everthing from pace, composure, his finishing. If we could get someone like that this summer I'd be over the moon!

He looks like an arrogant oxf*rd - would fit in well with a team like Cardiff.

Some good goals in that video, and all sorts too which is a good thing as well.

The one thing that struck me was that he was under no pressure from a defender in all but one or two of them. That means he's very clever at losing defenders and getting into space or that he rarely scores goals when playing against better defenders who get that bit tighter. The lower you go the more goals you can score off the back of defenders mistakes and sloppiness, I'd wonder of that's all he's done in this current run of form.

He looks like he's a big, quick and aggressive lad though, something I think we'll need to add over the summer.

He's a scorer of great goals, but is he a great goalscorer? Love a cliche.
