Wimb As the podcast guys so rightly pointed out in their last show, the issue isn't as much that they're winnable games. It's just we've had these 'winnable' games all season and failed, of course they CAN do it, but as Snowball himself would probably be forced to admit, we HAVEN'T been at that level of consistency all season.

We have had three/four different teams this season.

Four games with Gylfi W1 D2 L1, 5-5 not too good, and a ropey defence

Then about fifteen or so games where we floundered around trying mostly to continue with 451 and "replace Gylfi" but at least we had bolstered the defence somewhat. The first dozen games none of the strikers could score in open play.

Then we had the "experiment" where McDermot went for goals and we scored them but let them in
4-0, 4-3, 1-1,1-3, 3-3 all quite close together.

Then, finally Long came good and has been breathtaking ever since, averaging a goal every 1.33 games when starting with Hunt (Hunt is 1/1.66)... and this because Elwood has made the midfield so much better.

It's not particularly sensible to talk about our season's form or consistency as we really have had such different set-ups and personnel.

If Long-Hunt were to continue their joint-form and avoid injury, if Elwood was to continue unbeaten in the league, we would have a fantastic chance. But we have lost Pearce, which is a shame, and we have a young keeper who tonight could easily freeze (hope he doesn't).

But if Griffin gets back soon, if Cummings can play RB, if Mills-Zurab is put under pressure by a newly-fit Pearce, and Elwood's form stays as good as it has been, (and either Feds returns or the kid steps up) THIS team, ie the current 4-4-2 with Elwood, is much better than the team of the first 20 games.

Exactly Snowball, there are so many if's involved that the far more likely outcome is something similar to the rest of our season.... inconsistency.

Not disputing that we COULD finish very strongly and challenge, but it's not the likely outcome.

Unless the new keep starts having "mares" I fully expect the average ppg for the last 15 games to noticeably exceed the average ppg for the first 31.

Quite possibly, though it still won't be enough to reach the playoffs :(

Agreed. I've already said that we'll miss out (before I'm misquoted yet again)

andrew1957 The next 4 games are huge. There is no excuse for us not winning the two home games and Barnsley and Ipswich are beatable - so if we did get 4 wins in a row then the play offs could very much be back on again.

Hmm sounds familiar

4 games ago were we not saying something along the lines of :

We should remember that this season has been a very good one from McDermot's POV

Considering who we had to sell, a good job all round

One very good save in the FA Cup and BBC Radio Berks are starting to get silly.

Apparently if we just beat Boro on Saturday the play-offs are back on. Really?

We WILL, of course be back on target to achieve 30 points in the last (final) (Games 32-46) games

Beating Boro is by no means a given, however.
We need to be REALLY up for it and do a professional job.

Away at Ipswich will be a lot tougher.

BUT, there are some excellent games in March where our rivals for the top six play each other. If we can continue to gain 2 ppg we will be looking seriously good for 6/7th

We could all get bored driving up the M4 to Wembley three times before the end of the season!

Well we can dream.

Confidence. Now we've beaten Everton, so very professionally, ANYTHING is possible. Don't rule it out.

Also, do you remember the penalty @ Crystal Palace. Oh and he kept a clean sheet. Cech didn't manage that against Everton. Give the lad a break Snowball.

Hey I have already posted that he's made THREE VG saves in 2.1 games, plus at least one VG punch-clearance

What I was on about is the same BBC Mongs who said we had ZERO chance after Sheffield, zero chance after Watford, less than zero chance after palace
are now magically and mysteriously saying "Beat Boro and the play-offs are a real possibility"

to make the POs we have to have got 30 points in 15 games AND see Leeds stumble AND see Burnley lose their games in hand and Burnley drop at least another point or two...

Should be easy, then

Snowball,
At last you have joined those of us who realise that there are other teams involved.
It annoys me when people go on about being so many points off the play-offs as if the 6th place club is the only benchmark when of course there are other clubs who might end up with more points than us such as Burnley,Leicester,Ipswich et al.
I have never been a fan of the play-offs ever since the year of injustice when we finished 2nd and in any other season would have been promoted.
IMHO the top 3 ought to be promoted.
I understand the reasoning that interest is maintained much longer in a season for all of the mid-table clubs and therefore the crowd levels tend to be maintained but I feel that top3 should be the aim of any club and not this idea of scraping into a play-off.

As for the next 15 games in the league I don't really care too much other than gradually seeing some of the new players being introduced in matches-the FA Cup however is something else and if somehow we got into the semi-final what an exciting season this will have been.
Even I wasn't around the last time we reached that stage and if we did get there then that plus the couple of seasons that we had at the top level would mean that I would die a happy man.
