We battled well enough I suppose and Man City were very average for their status but really it was men against boys.

On the contrary, in some positions it was the opposite: Harte v Wright-Phillips, for example.

They played well. As far as I am concerned they showed they belonged on the same pitch as the Man City millionaires. I think this loss will be a positive for us down the stretch in league. If we can play with Man City we can beat anyone in our league. Other than the result I saw nothing negative about today's game...

Feel gutted but not humiliated; proud of the boys' effort. Gunnarsson proved what I've repeatedly tried to say to people on here--that he's not slow: time and again he went with Silva and Tevez.

But, until Howard came on, this game exposed something very odd about the way Reading have been playing this season--the lack of a forward midfield player. I call it the toilet seat formation: thick at the back and firm round the sides and the front, but with a big hole in the middle where the opposition can park their arse.

Agreed but a proud Royal tonight for the effort shown by our players and what a good bloke our manager is-you can see why players play for him.
The two central defenders were terrific on a day when their experience showed.
The two strikers on the other hand showed that their touch is short of Premiership class against much better defenders than they face week-in,week-out in The Championship.
What today showed is that when a team is well organised they can hold a much better side on an off day just as we did in that game v Man United when Kitson got sent off.
IMHO it does not show us to be a team ready to play in The Premiership.

Citeh never really looked like scoring. They exposed our defence and gave us some problems obviously, but didn't test McCarthy seriously much. It took a great run and header from plus uncharacteristic weak defending from a set piece to undo us.

We never looked like winning, but we were not far off a draw.

The scoreline can very much alter people's opinions of what is deserved. Had it stayed 0-0, or even if we'd somehow nicked one, it would have been claimed to have been deserved due to us snuffing them out, like we did to Everton.

They may have had the lion's share of possession, but like at Everton, at no stage did you ever feel that they were putting us under pressure.

Because they nicked one, however, the balance of play comes into their favour. They are, rightly in my opinion, creditted with deserving the win, but the term deserve is very subjective.
