Alan Partridge

Where is the final being held?

... weird - just posted a response which ' vanished' :?

2nd attempt : I don't think they've announced/decided on a venue for the B&B Cup Final yet - though the date has been set as Monday 2nd May.

... last years' Final was at Marlow FC (Magpies bt Wycombe 3-2 aet)

Similarly the lesser B&B Trophy Final is set for Tuesday 12th April but no venue announced - usually this is held at a geographically suitable 'local' STEP04 ground which presumably the County FA will call upon if available when the Finalists are known.
The Four semi-finalists in the Trophy this season are fairly well spread: Wantage, Newport Pagnell (holders) , Sandhurst or Flackwell.

Halesowen could be the next Windsor and Fold up by all accounts. Looking good for Diddy if another one goes!

Maidenhead United have signed 4 new players to boost their flailing chances of avoiding relegation from the Blue Square South, including Jefferson 'I mean Buiness' Louis and former Wrexham striker Craig Faulconbridge who came up against RFC on a few ocassions during his league career. http://www.footballconference.co.uk/new ... ws_id=4104

I haven't been this excited about football since Reading signed Shaun Goater.

Justin Clayton is one of those I believe - was a classy CD for W&E this season. Goes a-wandering on occasion but pretty calm and at 6'4" commanding in the air.

Is Fagan still on his game?

Not sure of our destination this PM - most likely down the M3 to check out AFC Totton's new ground (H vs Yate Town) - though I'm told its not fully functioning as such and the car parking is cr@p - so I might try and persuade my eldest to let me drive a bit further west for Verwood v AFC Portchester.
Also seems to be a bit of a rumour starting up that Poole Town may be trying to get round their inability to ever get an upgrade for Tatnum Pk. They seem to think they will be eligible for promotion whilst sharing with nr neighbours Hamworthy. In the meantime they are commencing planning work on a new stadium out at Canford

And it was a cracking game, too - Bracknell look a lot more organised and competent than when I saw them a few months ago. No doubt remembering that they lost the return 8-0 in December, they lined up in 4-3-2-1, soaked up lots of Binfield pressure and kept hitting them on the break - scored with a first half-penalty and held on from then to win 1-0. In fact, despite Binfield throwing everything at them, Bracknell had the best chances and should have won by a few more.

Really enjoyable game, though.

- in this league Downton were beaten 1-2 at home by Warminster today, ending the last unbeaten record amongst our 'local' leagues - I think Stansted over in the Essex Senior League (which is STEP05) were also unbeaten - haven't looked up their result today but conceivably they could be the only unbeaten side in the top six STEPS of the Pyramid.

We did pop down the M3/M27(W) to AFC Totton's shiny new 'stadium'. Much easier to find than the old one in the middle of an estate.
- Crowd of 718 saw the leaders despatch a plucky Yate Town 4-1 - erstwhile 'Royals Legend :? ' Michael Meaker was on the bench for Yate - never looked remotely interested in coming on.
Home side have now scored 14 goals in their first three games at their Testwood Stadium. Totton & Eling (formerly BAT Sports) also have moved into a brand new but slightly smaller facility next door.

...actually it IS pretty good - not trying to be picky BUT I'd have my reservations on a couple of points:

1) If you look through some of the photos you might find a few that show how incredibly narrow they've made the walkways - especially at either end of the ground - would be very cramped with a 'decent' size NL crowd - they're currently averaging over 600 - I'd expect this would rise significantly should they manage promotion this season - they've missed out in the Play-Offs for the last two.

2) Bar is a bit small too and don't go expecting to get food at Half-Time unless you join the queues early - there is actually a second serving hatch inside the Bar which might be quicker but difficult to negotiate.

3) Car Park is fairly big but appeared to be reserved for STs/Officials etc - plenty of free parking in the adjacent Industrial estate though.

BUT I'd definitely recommend a trip down - only just over an hour from RG1 - down to bottom of the M3 via 'stoke - West to Jn2 of M27 then back about 1/2 mile on the A36 - ground easily visible on the left.

62 at Reading Town on Saturday? Someone must have forgotten to reset the turnstile after their midweek game or was there another groundhoppers day?

....and at the other end of the scale ... the 9 goal slaughter at Hanwell for the 'lodgers' and new boys Hayes Gate (vs Worcester Pk) was reportedly witnessed by 4 !

... wonder how many @ Newbury tonight - the 'Moles' are in town for a Cup Quarter-Final - could also be a fair turn-out @ Hungerford (vs Totton).

Two B&B Trophy S-F's tonight too at Sandurst (v Flackwell) & Wantage (v Newport Pagnell)

I'm on ferrying-kids-around duties (again  ) so looks as if it'll be a mad dash somewhere and hope the cross-town 'ding traffic is behaving itself - just about got to Larges Lane from Caversham for KO last week.

Was still plenty of room there, but I did have to queue for my pre-match burger.
