Last Issue of The Whiff

by Terminal Boardom » 21 Mar 2011 22:07

Got a message on that Facebook thing over the weekend suggesting that the next issue of the Whiff will be the last. Does anyone have any favourite moments from the last 10 years plus?

My favourite has to be the front page which mentioned Michael Barrymore and a chicken. TVP got involved if I am not mistaken.

Unfortunately I believe that cock up led to confiscation of 1,000 issues and financial issues, hastening its demise.

Its a shame they feel hob nob has replaced its purpose. I have always bought it over the official programme. Some of the articles were bizarre but the cartoons were brilliant!

Letters section always great too.

I shall miss the fanzine when it goes, a sad loss to RFC.

There's some great front covers on display.

I hope they create an archive of past issues for posterity.

No.

Z175 Its a shame they feel hob nob has replaced its purpose.

Quite wrong - the point of fanzine is that the (roughly) articulate can reason an opinion/ entertain in 200+words, rather than the pithy lines thrown out in HNA - and who reads any thread response with more than 20 words in any case.

Please guys it is worth wasting more of your lives to keep it going.

My favourite front cover is the one of Harps celebrating his goal against Liverpool. It's so good I got him to autograph that one. Woody's cartoons are real quality and the one with Mick Gooding and Tim Dellor is absolutely brilliant. Follow the link given above to find it.

Some of the articles felt a bit "ooh aren't we a bit wry" but there was some good stuff in there sometimes. I liked the gambling articles, the letters, and the View from Row Z

Yeah I agree. Theres slightly more thought when its published properly. But they said in the last issue sales are drastically down and they have better htings to do. Its hard to argue. It might be worth asking for donations or pre-orders I guess but I'm, sure they have considered their decision.

No barriers to anyone wanting to start another one at some point though. I can think of a few titles people on hob nob could start up.

- "Wheres the money gone?" A weekly analysis of RFCs finances that week.
- "New Song For..." - A 1 page sheet with bizarre song ideas that will never be sung.
- "A33"- Fanzine with views of people who sit too low down the stand to see anything, complete with a section moaning about traffic.
- "M4" - Fanzine with views of people who sit halfway up the stand and think they know more the the manager because of this, complete with a section moaning about traffic.
- "Col Lee Park" - Korean language fanzine, dedicated to Seol Ky heon.
"Reading FC's No.1 Fanzine" - Constant debates over Hahneman v Federici v McCarthy v Andersen v Hamer v Locke v Hammond v Buffon

I understand the last issue is to contain an interview with SJM.

Sad day if true. Had a conversation with one of the sellers a couple of years ago who said it was a struggle to keep it going and to keep finding new, decent content.

Have always enjoyed reading it, as I did Heaven 11 back in the 90's.

Was it Heaven 11 that had the greatest cartoon of all time? The Samaritans one when a s*indon fan phoned through? Now, if someone could scan that and post it on here....

Focher Taking the biscuit > The Whiff

I have virtually every single copy of TTB in a box somewhere. And a couple of issues Elm Park Disease.

Sometime I like to get them out and stroke myself while thinking about Royal With Cheese.
