Very sad news indeed.
I buy fanzines wherever I go.
I find them infinitely more entertaining, and better value than paying an extortionate amount of money to have a glossy magazine churning out populist soundbites written by the club politburo, photographs of Mr Edwin Sturk, from Bedwinton, shaking hands with the club's commercial manager after winning last week's "Golden ticket", and peurile interviews with players.
I know that tricky winger Dave "spinner" Burcombe's favourite drink is lager, and the last CD he bought was Atomic Omlette by the Hydraulic Deckchairs. My life is *xf*rd complete now.

This is terrible news. Always enjoyed reading The Whiff. Certainly better than the programme. The wit is cleverer, dryer, more sardonic, and therefore better, than (all) other fanzines I have read.

Very sad - I always bought one whenever I saw someone selling them. Really well written and funny. Fully expect another will step into the void.

If so many people "always bought it", why is it a struggle to keep it going?

Isn't it at least partly because the people who produced it have families and other commitments now as well as the access to similar stuff online? They really need someone else to take up the mantle now.

Loved their sense of humour.

Agreed with the commitment comments. It's great fun to run a fanzine but, like a band, it's a tricky thing to keep going for a considerable length of time. We at TTB had two goes but, in truth, it had long run its course by the time we'd finished.

The guys at the whiff have my utmost respect and admirartion for keeping such a high quality publication going for such a length of time.

Personally, I think fanzines have had their time - with blogs and the likes of HobNob the natural replacements.

Agreed with all of the above - plus the fact that fanzines thrive when things are going badly and there's plenty to criticise. That's not really the scenario we've had here, compared with some other clubs.

Ref the last paragraph - yes, the best football writing these days is on blogs - any subject you care to read, and free.

Best one by far- Scarborough Athletic's 'Abandon Chip!' in reference to the old Mccain owners of Scarborough FC.

i will never forget striking the stanch in the TTB farewell Elm Pk game , as anyone else who played would confess, it was probably the crispest 30 yard strike at Elm Pk since Quinn's lob.

I usually buy one to read at half time, but I didn't have any change last time I walked past them. It's all my fault for not buying one.

Sad. I was lucky enough to have three pieces published and my brother used to post them to me over the pond. I will miss it.

I'm an old Luddite who stills reads 'real' books, and buys newspapers and, on my rare visits to live footy, will always buy a fanzine over an official proggie.

FTR, when we moved overseas 15 years ago, the Mrs said (I know, I *know*) I had to select and limit my reading matter to one box. My collection of Elm Park Disease, TTB and The Whiff made the cut.
