Well deserved, but does SJM think another club might come and poach him from us?

Quite like BcD because he doesn't come across as a cockpiece.

Good question. I'd be surprised - because BMc's greatest asset is his knowledge of the players and his relationship with them - and that's not something that's particularly transferable.

It may just be insurance in case we do get promoted - give him a reasonable raise now instead of having a situation where he could demand a whopping great rise on promotion.

Yep, very good question by Sarah. And probably spot on why he was given a raise. Having observed him since he took over I can tell Brian is a very loyal type of person to the club, having been here in some capacity for so long, and gave SJM a chance to keep him, even if less than what he potentially could/would/is being offered by another club.

I guess the same arrangement will apply to Nigel Gibbs ?

Good news, anything that keeps Brian here for at least another season or two is good by me. He needs to be given encouragement not to go looking for bigger jobs, because he could potentially get them now. How successful he'd be in them is an unknown of course.

Brian is a genuinely likeable guy, like Coppell. I didn't feel that for Rodgers or Pardew, despite the success one of them achieved.

Fair point though tbh. Much as I think it's time Madejski moved on, basic business common sense is something he doesn't lack and this was a good move. Well done JM.

Hampshire Royal Rodgers was appointed to make McD look even better. Brilliant bit of staffing by JM.

Yeah he's really struggling at Swansea.

That's true - Swansea have lost 2 (Scunthorpe and Derby) and drawn 1 (Watford) of their last 4 games

This is very good stuff, but may it just reveal that Brian was taken on as a cheap option originally, earning a lot less than Rodgers had been?

I was really looking at the season as a whole, Rodgers is no mug despite what the haters think on here. I'm happy we've got BMcD but just because things never worked out for Rodgers with us I wouldn't slag him off.

Rodgers is another McGhee, good at a level but needs to stay with a club, should never have left Watford for us IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, I like Rodgers. He used to live in the same road as my daughter and i met him a couple of times. He's very likeable - it's just that he couldn't do anything at Reading, which would have disappointed him as much as anybody.

That's a given. Rodgers was a name going places and McDermott was ex-manager of Slough Town and our Chief Scout.

Nope, it's not.

They want a progression of appointments from within, like the old Liverpool bootroom. BMc just got his chance a number of years earlier than expected when BR didn't work out, but he was always in teh succession planning.
