handbags_harris To be honest, Ian, anyone who is saying things like "harsh red" and "harsh pen" and then not saying "I don't care, it's about time we got one over that shower of c*nts" needs to have a look at themselves :)

To add to this I don't think I have seen such arrogant petulant preening would-be premier league players since Newcastle last year.
Seemingly genuine astonishment when a decision doesn't go their way and crowding the ref pleading for him to change his mind. The worst aspects of professional football on show - just downright demeaning and only brings the game into disrepute
So glad they got their long awaited come uppance

Long and Howard excellent and Kitson good for us too!

I think Halford was the worst of all of them. Whenever a decision went against him he seemed to explode with rage!

URZZ
LoyalRoyalFan  @ a certain section of there fans trying it on at the end.

I heard about this, go on, givus the goss?

Few minutes remaining, the fans nearest to the East Stand start kicking off and run towards the barriers.

The police were all outside dealing with a separate incident.

This was started by some goading from a couple of Pompey twats and then someone who looked like he was old enough to know better started clambering over the netting and the Pompey fans reacted predictably and vigorous pointing ensued

With regards to that. It was interesting to see Cotterill go over at the end and visibly beckon the tw@ttish Pompey fans away from the fence.

I liked the tug of war over the barrier with the chap who bravely punched the tango in the back.

RoyalJames101 Thought Howard was class today, showed some great touches on the ball and played some very good passes. McCarthy again made some great saves, albeit one of them coming from his mistake. Bryn solid as ever. Kanu looked lively when he came on. Quite gutted Church's goal was dissallowed though.

Not the best second half, but the job was done and the points are in the bag :D

Carlos Worst game ive ever seen from Mcanuff. Constantly lost the ball/looked disinterested. Always took the wrong option.

Roll on tuesday.

Don't agree with this. Thought he looked lively when going forward and seemed to beat his man on the outside a lot more today than usual.

Are you for real? McAnuff was awful and disinterested

A very important win of course against a side with a lot of impressive players on paper but the performance was efficient rather than exceptional in my view. Probably should have been behind before we scored but scored a good goal before the red card which was correct and the penalty which was incorrect. Not great against ten men again and sat back a bit but job done.

McCarthy is growing in confidence and is beginning to look more dominant in the air except for one glaring flap late on. Recovered his only other error with a great block from the hapless Kitson. Back four were pretty sound but I think we may be pushing our luck with Bryn now. Thought we missed Ledge when it was eleven v eleven even though the midfield three were all decent. Howard did well to set up the red card situation but got in the game more when they went down to ten men and generally did well. Afraid I am another one who thought Jobi was poor and although I think he would have been replaced at some point I agree with those that think McDermott took him off when he did for fear of a second yellow card. As soon as he committed his final silly foul McDermott told HRK to have one run up and down the line and then get ready quickly. Up front Long was Long as always - starting to take him for granted almost now.

Just seen the highlights (all 3 of them) on the beeb, nice first goal, ashdown probably should have done better though. As for the second goal...that was never a penalty, long was about a yard outside the area, definitely a sending off though. And I am not going to complain about it!

Victor Meldrew
RoyalBlue What a complete and utter load of bollox!! He had already produced a succession of great passes prior to that. There was also an incident when he just dipped his shoulder to wrong-foot two opponents and burst past them towards the goal only to be brought down for the free-kick in a central position that Harte came very close to scoring from.

He also displayed great skill immediately before the fantastic pass that led to the penalty. He found himself out wide on the left midway inside his own half and surrounded by three opponents. You could see him look around to try to find a team-mate to lay the ball off to. When he couldn't see anyone he somehow wriggled away from the players closing on him, worked his way down the touchline and then curled that delightfully weighted and placed pass around the centre back and straight into Long's run.

Sorry mate but it wasn't that great a pass.
We were sat right behind it and it was a pass that the centre-back should have dealt with easily but he made a hash of it and brought Long down.
On chances made Pompey could have been about 6-2 up by half-time but football is about taking chances and we took ours.
As ever the manager was spot on in the interview afterwards in saying that we were poor in the second half-isn't it good to have a bloke like him (and Coppell) who is not full of the bullshit that we got from Pardew and Rodgers?.
The good thing is that without Jobi or Kebe firing we still won.
Talking of Kebe I wonder why he has stopped trying to go past his man-today it was the ancient Hreidarsson who was there for the taking.
He really hasn't been the same since the injury.

Just seen it again and it was, as I thought, at the time a cracking pass
Also confirmed my suspicion that contact was outside the box - Oh well!

Good first half, poor second half. But we won, and winning games when you aren't at your best is a sign of a good team.

Any news on Leigertwood?

So their fans are giving Kitson a hard time. They also took the hump that Kitson came over to clap the Reading fans at the end of the game but ignored their lot.

Kitson back to Reading?? Any thoughts??

TBF Kitson was our MotM, his fifth column work up front was quite exceptional

As for the rest, all good really, top result, good strike from Shane from the first but Ashdown really should have saved it, maybe he was working with Dave? From the North it was quite clear that Rocha had to go but couldn't tell if the contact was inside or out, TV says out but my sympathy metre for the south coast cheats will always be empty so tough titty. After that I'd of liked to of seen us go for a few more goals against 10 men but not to worry, the points are the thing. Someone applauded McCarthy's handlng earlier which confused me a tad as I'm fairly sure he struggled catching a cold in the first half, as good as he is generally

Not the best performance of the season by a long way, but a fantastic result. Earlier in the season, thats a game we would have lost.

All credit to Brian, who has got the squad totally believeing in theselves so that when they need to come in for the "first" eleven, they do so seamlessly; those days of thinking we wouldn't win without having Leigertwood in the team are long gone now.

Into the play-offs and a win on Tuesday (NOT a formality bearing in mind Preston's recent form - 3 wins on the trot) will mean that even a defeat to Forest next Saturday won't dislodge us from 6th.

McCarthy spilled a couple of shots first half, and made a hash of a Halford long throw at the end, but apart from that his catching at corners etc was excellent.

Maybe I'm being harsh because the ones you've mentioned are the ones that stick in the memory. I reckon he could be a future England keeper but for now I'd rather have Feds

It would be a bit of a dilemma for Brian if/when Feds' recovers from his injury; do you immediately bring back your #1, or do you stay with the #2 who has only been in 1 losing Reading 1st team - away at Man City - and who was officially player of the month? And its not as if Feds' hasn't dropped a few clangers this season either.....

We can't afford his current wages and wouldn't want him on his current form: if I was a Portsmouth fan, I would be really annoyed with him becuase there were some bad misses yesterday. Nugent, on the other hand, worked his socks off and deserved better than a 2-0 defeat.

Sure is no way Kitson deserves 20k a week. Just wonder how good Long would be if we didn't need to use him as the target man for every clearance?
