The Pompey backpass was played from the thigh so it was OK, correct decision by ref. If played by knee or below would have been an offence. Writes a non-ref, in trepidation.

Thought you could play it back with the knee?

You can.

In 1992, it was ruled that if a player deliberately kicked the ball with his feet for his goalkeeper and the latter touched it with his hands or arms, there would be an indirect free-kick against him. Heading the ball, playing it with the knee, thigh or chest were all still permitted, as it was felt that such situations, deprived of the accuracy of a pass with feet, might create a chance of the opposing forwards stealing a wayward back pass to their advantage.

Doesn't time fly. I can't believe it's almost 20 years since I saw a back pass picked-ed by a keeper.

Stranded Good result and great to be in the play off places, will be interesting to see how being in there affects the mindset of the team and fans alike. It's very different looking to cement a place in the top six rather than chasing one down.

Then they should start thinking about chasing down a top 2 place!

The more of these posts that you read the more you wonder which game people were at. I thought it was a poor display by Reading, who could not retain the ball, defensively were quite disorganised and struggled against ten men. Others, quite obviously, saw it quite differently.
The one thing we all agree about is it was great to stick one on Porstsmouth. Does anyone like them?

Good, because I couldn't work out why it was ruled out from the game and no one had mentioned it.

They reckon offside, would like to know who was offside because it certainly wasn't Simon.

It was another dubious Howard like hand ball. At least that's what the ref gestured when he gave it.

On BBC it says it was diallowed for off-side - hard to see how it could have been off-side ... very harsh if it was. Would have been happy for Church if it had counted - he needs it. Problem is those are the kind of goals he can score - his problems come when he's close up.

Good win in the end.

Never been a fan of Howard but I've got to say that he has a really good game on Satters.

Onwards.

Agreed.

A first home win for donkeys years against a club many dislike papers over the cracks though, and for me there were a few cracks too.

If anything I think Pompey were the better side, even when down to ten men we struggled at times. If they'd taken just one of those early chances before Ashdown did a Federici I think we'd have really struggled.

There were few good performances, but Long and Howard were the pick of the bunch. The rest were pretty average.

Great result though, and I'm amazed how strong a position we're now in considering where we were a few weeks back. It really didn't think enough of the teams above us would have as bad a run as they have and I fingers crossed the form now continues into May.

we played much like we did before Leigertwood came in on loan.

Poor control of the midfield.

Luckily we were also playing with much more confidence, and a shit hot Shane Long.

Well, I cam on before the game and here I am after.

Well done and congrats on the win.

Didnt think it was a particularly good game, but was better than some of the other enconuters. Particularly the one at FP at the start of the season.

Shame about the violence but I get used to that to be honest.
good luck for the rest of the season - will we see you next season or not? good luck if not.
