Brian are you going to handle it OK?

by Factfinder » 13 Apr 2011 20:05

I saw the way you interviewed with Mark Clemmit on the TV last Saurday evening, I was embarrassed for you.

You're an all round nice guy, but I'm not so sure of the cut and thrust of the publicity hounds.

Thought he handled it very well in his own style, why on earth would he want to know Reading's result from 50 years ago. His team are on a winning streak and the best the BBC can find to talk about is a defeat on the day he was born! no wonder he didn't seem interested.

I liked it.. seemed to treat it with the polite contempt it deserved until they spoke about what was actually happening with us. He seemed quite genuine, which is hardly a surprise. And he does fine in all the interviews he has to do after the games already.

Agreed. having said that I really don't think he would relish the additional duties next season that promo would entail. Not one little bit.

He'd grow into it Rother, just as he has in taking up the mantle of manager. He strikes me as the sort of person who isn't phased by all the bullshit and is very able to put his point of view across,if required. I'd describe him as 'a gentleman who doesn't take prisoners'.

Yeah, I can't see Reading thriving under a manager who isn't massively comfortable with the media.

The bloke on the Football League Show is such a helm that I don't think i'd even know how to respond to any of his questions other than "look, just fukk off would you?"

So in that respect Brian McD >> Me

Its a breath of fresh air to see the awkward normality he brings to media interviews.

This ^^^^^ Thought he was very good on that.

Like him more and more each day. Almost as much as Coppell.

Having a manager like BMcD talk to the press > Having someone like Holloway or Colin talking to the press and risking embarssesing themselves. I think the OP is suggesting that he becomes some sort of Mourinio all of a sudden!

And Mancini and Ancellotti are such riveting luminaries to watch after a game. Only Holloway and Redknapp give you any kind of humour or glimmer of what they really think. Seriously, who cares? I'd rather be bothered with what he does to make the players tick off the pitch than any kind of TV appearance.

Anyone who ever saw Coppell speak 'off camera' would know that he was 100% different to what you saw on TV.

Especially after the Everton game.

Brian's interview style is excellent; no histrionics, no "wannabe" meejay personality, no over the top BS if we win, no paraquat & razor blades if we lose, no raving and ranting about a throw in that didn't go our way 3 minutes before the opponents scored costing us the game (copyright any ex Man Utd player who is now a Manager), no whining about "the Board aren't letting me buy the 10 players that I need" guff (copyright Billy Davies).....I think he handles the media very well, and as has been said, a VERY dry sense of humour (which appears to be over the heads of many interviewing him and many on this board!)

I actually feel PROUD that, as a club, we have such a level headed and sensible guy as our Manager.

^ This.

As a rookie manager he's going to be on a steep learning curve, and god knows how well he'll do if we get promoted this year. But he's made a hell of a start to his career and like Coppell demonstrates those traits that I like to think are characteristic of our club: decent, straight-forward, modest, hard-working and grounded (and successful :) ). Most of our playing squad over the last few years have been the same.

It's great to have people at the club who I actually like, and Brian is first and foremost there. Such a contrast with Rodgers...
