Four Of Clubs ..apols for the continuing tardiness of the Preview/Review - touch of the lurgy and busy Sat AM intervened this week:

...got to Woodley 2-1 Newbury on v.pleasant Thu eve - nice crowd 50+ = good to chat with HH from here too.
Prog available from the Chairman who doubled as 'Tea-Lady'.
Nice of him to give my youngest a cup of milk in the absence of cold-drinks. :)
.... game finished in acceptable light: Newbury were woeful up front and dodgy at the back - started just before 18:30 minus a Newbury player and lino!

....my efforts are not helped by the damn scroll feed problem happening again today - means I can't see what the &^%$ I'm typing - & I can't easily highlight/italicise either!!! :evil: :evil: :evil:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday still feeling slightly ‘iffy’ – I persuaded my mate to stay very local @ the delightful setting of Ardington & Lockinge FC for the North Berks Cup semi between Saxton Rovers & AFC Benson (3rd in 1st Div vs 1st in 2nd)
Two minor downers:
- game went to ET & pens – so inspite of it being an early KO (14:30) we were still back home at about the same time as we had been for a 15:00 game.
- Clubhouse bar didn’t open until 16:15 – presumably planning to to get punters in for the National – trouble was ET had just started – meant I missed a goal scored at the start of ET saw SR’s almost instant equalizer from the bar.
Otherwise game itself was a belter – Saxton given two Reds right on half time at 0-1 down – one slightly harsh for a fairly soft push/punch/elbow. 2nd to a really gobby sub who’d been in the Refs face from the minute he came on – justified or not he was a Card waiting to happen and possibly wrecked his own teams chances of getting to the Final, against lower opponents. The 1st division team did equalize fairly late on to take the game into ET.
Benson missed a raft of chances in ET but late got two in quick succession to win
4-2 and they now meet 4th Divison leaders Berinsfield in the Final sometime in May - not sure where the Final will be but could be worth looking out for!
Usually at Abingdon Utd. According to the website, it's the first NB Cup final contested between two sides not in Division 1. That's 101 years worth of finals.
I used to get that non-scrolling thing but since I was told to click on the little broken page icon next to the google address bar (says "Compatibility View etc....") it's been fine.
Apologies if that's been suggested before - I'm probably 5 years behind most people's IT knowledge but thought I'd offer it up...
PS What about AFC Totton? 9-0 and 7-0 in the last few days and Gosney (left winger) scored 4 in both. He always looked their biggest threat when playing against Windsor & Eton but he gets better and better. One would imagine someone in League 2 will snap him up soon. Mind you, if Brett Williams was good enough for RFC to take a punt on maybe the Championship could beckon....
...thanks - might try that next time I post one of my 'fascinating missiveszzzzzzzz' :mrgreen:
... and I'm sure I'd read Gosney was definitely off in the summer but can't remember where - possibly league 1 or 2 club - I'll sniff around later and see what I can unearth.....
... AP you are of course the fount of all things N.Berk-ish! :wink:
FINAL is on Sat 7th May @ Abingdon Utd KO 19:00h
There is another 'lesser' N.Berks FINAL kicking off same venue at 14:00h - AG Kingham Cup
Benson AFC Res. v Faringdon Town Res -
- so if you opted for a double you'd have almost 2 hrs to spare in the leafy fleshpots of the ex-County Town too! :?
... don't go train spotting - station went yonks ago - but Fishing off the Wharf down by St Helen's Church looks a safe enough occupation for the interlude?
PS That 'broken-page' option thingy DOES seem to overcome the trouble I was having with my scrolls! :wink:
Spot on Andy. If Maidenhead could win that one they would have a decent chance of a great escape as,after facing Maidenhead, Thurrock's three remaining matches are against Welling (4th) away, Ebbsfleet (3rd) home and Farnborough (2nd) away.
Maidenhead have Staines (12th) away Dorchester (16th) home and Dartford (10th) home
Good news. New club Windsor FC have been accepted into the FA pyramid.
With ups and downs, regionalisation, and clubs going out of business we won't know what league the club will be in until may when everything has been setlled and withdrawals announced.
The Windsor situation is a good start, I'm pleased for all involved they have been accepted.
Are there any early indications ie Hellenic 1E, Combined Counties or something a bit higher?
The situation will become clearer in May when the FA decide where Windsor FC will sit. The next obstacle to clear is agreeing the lease with Crown Estates which could be entertaining. The hope is for this to be achieved by the end of the month. After that, there leaves very little time to spruce up Stag Meadow and get it ready for the August kick off. Now if anyone has any time to spare and wants to lend a hand...
Heard on the radio yesterday that Farnborough have struck a deal with Darlington to purchase the old East Stand from Feethams. Just the small matter of Farnborough getting planning permission.
...dipped into this league last night - my 4th NL match of the week :) watched Hartley W. overcome Knaphill 2-1 in a very close and hard fought game - considering neither side had much left to play for this season.
Home side with a smattering of ex-Royal associations - incl. (as he's now known) 'Willo' - though to me and other Royals he'll always be 'Skittles' :wink: - now playing in CM and gets around the pitch OK still. Set up the winner, I think, with a great long ball over the top that the CB knocked past the Keeper leaving the forward an empty net to roll the ball into.
Good size crowd too - 80-90 ish at a rough guess.
Dartford 1-4 Boreham Wood
Dorchester 0-0 Dover
Bedworth United 2-1 Marlow
Burnham 1-2 Hitchin Town
COCOP
Camberley Town 1-2 Badshot Lea
Chessington & Hook United 0-1 Wembley
Cove 0-0 Ash United
Egham Town 1-4 Molesey
Hanworth Villa 2-1 Guildford City
Horley Town ?? Epsom & Ewell
Mole Valley SCR 6-3 Dorking
Raynes Park Vale 0-0 Chertsey Town
Sandhurst Town ?? Croydon
COCO1
Bedfont Sports 2-0 Frimley Green
CB Hounslow United 3-3 Farnham Town
Sheerwater ?? Farnborough North End
South Park 5-2 Eversley
Staines Lammas 0-1 Farleigh Rovers
Warlingham 5-2 Chobham
Worcester Park 3-1 Westfield
HELLP
Abingdon Town 1-0 Shortwood United
Ardley United 1-1 Highworth Town
Bracknell Town 2-1 Old Woodstock Town
Flackwell Heath 1-2 Carterton
Kidlington 5-0 Ascot United
Pegasus Juniors 2-2 Thame United
Shrivenham 5-4 Oxford City Nomads
Witney United 1-1 Binfield
Wootton Bassett Town 0-4 Wantage Town – ‘Freds’ now top and in the driving seat
– four of the top six have scored over 100 goals and Binfield (themselves on 98 goals) slip back to 5th though they have a game in hand. ‘Moles’ play H v Shortwood now back in 6th on Monday – their surprise defeat @ Ab Town this PM, rules them out of the title race and the promotion slots too – of which they were one of the few eligible.
– strange that Kidlington, a lot of people’s tip for the title have dropped down to 7th.
A lot will become clearer by next w/e’s final round of games for most - as this midweek’s games see Wantage host Ardley in their final game on Thursday after playing at Bracknell on Tue. If they (Wantage) win at Larges La and avoid defeat in their final match vs Ardley, they are almost certainly champions and can be promoted.
Slimbridge in 3rd could overhaul them but go to Highworth in 4th place on Tue then Ardley next Sat.
Down the other end RTFC need 3 points from 5 remaining matches to stay out of the bottom four – will most likely manage that anyway in their next match at Home vs Carterton on Tue eve – when even a draw will probably condemn their visitors to the drop. Unlikely then to play their last home game v Pegasus who are leaving the Hellenic. They are Home v Thame on Thursday and have a belter of a 'derby' match at Binfield on BH Monday.
Not choosing the best midweek to go away on hols with the Family :roll: – may be back for one of the Thursday evening games if I’m lucky!
HELL1E
Chalfont Wasps 1-3 South Kilburn
Holyport 2-0 Hungerford Town Reserves
Rayners Lane 2-0 Henley Town
Supplementary Challenge Cup Q-F
Woodley Town 1-3 Purton
WESS1
Fleet Spurs 0-4 Pewsey Vale
Great win for Farnborough at Chelmsford in the Blue Square South but leaders Braintree maintained the four point gap over them with only three games to go.
P GD PTS Remaining games
Braintree 39 +43 83 a) Hampton (15th) h) Welling (4th) a) WestonSM (12th)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Farnborough 39 +37 79 h) Woking (5th) a) Dorchester (17th) h) Thurrock (20th)
Ebbsfleet 39 +26 76 h) Chelmsford (7th) a) Thurrock (20th) h) Woking (5th)
At the bottom as has been pointed out already Maidenhead won at Thurrock with a very late goal to give them a chance of pulling off the great escape
Maidenhead 39 -27 36 a) Staines (14th) h) Dorchester (17th) h) Dartford (11th)
Bishops Stort 39 -37 36 h) St Albans (22nd) a) Lewes (21st) h) Dorchester (17th)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thurrock 39 -26 35 a) Welling (4th) h) Ebbsfleet (3rd) a) Farnborough (2nd)
Lewes 39 -33 33 a) Havant (10th h) Bishops Stort (19th) a) Boreham W (16th)
St Albans 39 -29 23 a) Bishops Stort(19th)h) Havant (10th) a) Dover (6th)
Because of Staines involvement in the Middx Senior Cup Final on Easter Monday Maidenhead's away game with them is being played this Tuesday. Might try and get down there to give them a cheer.
Took in Woking 2-0 Bishops Stortford. BS were really dreadful and but for some shameful showboating and piss taking by Woking, the scoreline should have been more emphatic. Staines v Maiders could be an interesting game Tuesday. Might take that one in.
And Maidenhead go marching on with a thoroughly deserved 2-1 win at Staines. Winner coming in something like the 88th minute. Crowd of 271.
