Snowball
savage 4 england Harte is putting the other defenders in trouble. Just because Harte isn't the final contributor to a mistake (e.g Matt Mills back pass) doesn't mean he is playing well.

Harte has been around a long time. It's my opinion that though he looks in trouble he is not in as much trouble as we think. That's why I make the point about which goals has he CAUSED. He had a BLUNDER v Doncaster, was partly at fault for the Bristol goal (but his man wasn't the scorer)...

I presume you're not trying to suggest Harte's weaknesses contributed to Mills's error?

No, I was just giving that as an example of a final contribution.

When Harte was 86th in the Actim Index

Snowball
Here's a bet, then.

If Harte is first-choice for the rest of the season he'll finish in the top 30 on Actim

The reason he might not make the top TWENTY is he'll always be short of the 53
points he could have earned if he hadn't played those games for Carlisle

Now, seeing as most of you seem to be saying Harte is shite, what odds will you give me? 50-1 seem fair?

After all he's way down in 86th, and I am saying 30th or higher.

50-1?
40-1?
33-1?
20-1?

At what point do you feel safe.

Happy to bet £100 per better if I get decent odds.

Now 18th

Use of the might word as ever SB.

Strange semantic analysis. I read that as saying

If Harte had played those early games for Carlisle he WOULD make the top twenty.

But the loss of 50+ points (from not playing those four games) might just scupper him.

I think that's red-hot predicting at a time I was getting a lot of stick for it.

TBF I dont recall reading the thread last autumn, get bored of the constant writing off of signings, prefer to see how it goes.

Harte has done well, at fault for a few no doubt, but all defenders will be, comes with the teritory.

His dead ball deliveries have been just what was needed after Siggy moved on though, excellent signing from BM.

I think a lot of people were negative to his signing at the time due to the fact that Sigi had just been sold, and it seemed that we were replacing a young, exciting, goal-scoring prospect with an old, past-it pro from the lower leagues, and were unable to view Harte's arrival as seperate from Sigi's departure.

At times he HAS been found wanting for pace, but with 4 games (maybe 7!) to go, I think its fair to say that Harte's signing (and that of Khis and Leigertwood) has been a success. Teams are PETRIFIED to foul us around the penalty area now due to Harte's reputation with a dead ball; our 2nd goal on Saturday came in part becasue defenders were scared to go in too hard in case they gave away a free kick.

Imagine Harte AND Sigg in the same side, Sigg could score from 25 yards, in open play, that really would have terrified teams, with two then able to take the kicks given away. I would add it also allows Long to get into the box, where he either scores or gets taken down for the penalty.

URZZ WE NEED A GOALSCORER FFS.

We need to stop letting goals in

Kish and Harte should help with that.

We need someone to score free-kicks. Harte should help with that.

We need our 4-4-2-style strikers to play 4-4-2.

Job done.

AMEN!

Ideal Maybe he can teach them to party like Leeds players in the year 2000..
Prison is the likely experience to be gained.

I realise this may be a tongue in cheek retort but on that logic should Rio never get a chance to be England Captain because of association to his Leeds days. I'm sure a decade on he's matured into a man and, as previously posted, his experience will rub off in a positive way on the squad.

It was tongue in cheek, but if we are talking factual stuff:
Difference being Rio Ferdinand has gone on to captain Manchester United and feature regularly for them, in one of the worlds best teams.
Ian Harte has been stranded in a wilderness, playing for backyard teams, not featuring regularly, seemingly unfit and unwilling to train properly.
Call it what you will, but I see no signs of professionalism in a player who has allowed himself to be unfit physically and wasted 7-8 years of his career doing nothing at nothing clubs in nowhere leagues.

That is arrogant nonsense; the guy has helped an unfashionable team get promotion by being a leader on the pitch, and yet you choose to belittle him and teams like Carlisle United.

It may have escaped your notice but not that long ago we wern't that much different to teams like Carlisle.

FFS - its cr@p like this that makes me despair of some Reading fans!

Ten thousand years old, hasn't been all that good for a number of years, was always defensively suspect and slow to begin with, smacks of desperation and is simply put relegation material.
