Which players would cut it in the prem should we go up?

by Archie's penalty » 19 Apr 2011 14:25

Any ideas?

My bro who is a Blackburn fan thinks, for example, that Zurab would be too slow for the prem.

So who would make the cut?

I disagree I think lack of pace can be exposed at any level. If you are classy enough then you should aim high. Kish and Pearce should both be fine.

We've basically got a team of players who've never quite been good enough for the top flight so I think as individuals they'd all struggle a little bit.

The likes of Kishanishvili, Griffin, Harte, Leigertwood, and to a lesser extent McAnuff have all been in and around the top flight but not remained which means various managers have thought they're not good enough.

Our strength appears to be the team being greater than the sum of it's parts so I don't think it's all about the indiviuals (as it wasn't in 2006).

I've discounted the likes of Ingimarsson and Gunarsson for next year, but whatever happens at the end of this season we should be looking at a reasonable amount of change in the squad.

ive decided, due to sobering lessons in my lack of ability to assess if reading players could make it in the prem.

im going to say all of them in a way.

and in another way, shlong, kebe, kish, karacan, bertrand, siggurdsson, nhunt, cummings, ledge, griffin, mcarthy

McCarthy
The rest may be alright as bit-part players.

Bloody hell!

All this talk of going up is not good.

Remember 1995, 2001, 2009...................

Play-offs!!

I know you're speculating but please....

If we don't go up the same list of players who might cut it could be seen as a list of players we need to avoid losing.

If we don't go up this end of season form might just attract the wrong kind of transfer attention whereas the same run in October might be forgotten more easily come the opening of the transfer window.

Kebe, Karacan and given a chance McCarthy.

Long as well if playing for us, but not if he left. Here at Reading he's been given time and patience to discover the form he's now showing. In the Premiership you don't get that time, and you don't tend to see much in the way of patience either. I think if Shane leaves us for a top flight club he would soon be found out and be back in the Championship in no time.

Would? Impossible to tell in any way. Could in confident and in form team?

McCarthy, Federici, Griffin, Mills, Khizanishvili, Leigertwood, Karacan, McAnuff, Kebe, & Long. Maybe others as well.

You're a bit optimistic mate, but no one here is qualified to say you're wrong either.

Griff - would cope for one season at the top - maybe.
Mills - never. Too complacant and hot tempered.
Legs - Maybe, but he's been there before and didn't pull up any trees. However, he may be a better and more complete player now and ready for it.
McAnuff - Only if he's up for it every week. He's always had question marks over him at this level because he often goes missing.
Federici - not a complete enough keeper imo.

Very hard to tell.

We know our side beat Liverpool and Everton so technically therefore the players are good enough.

You can never really tell who is going to do well. I was shocked that we reached 8th in the Prem and there's every possibility this squad will get a midtable finish in the Prem as it is.

And this is coming from someone who fiercely criticises the club for not investing enough in the players!

He's got the talent. But it would take a massive step up in mentality.
