Not really...I think the proof will be in the playoffs. McDermott's done reasonably well, but his style of football is short-termist and what remains to be seen is how we'll fare next year should we lose to Swansea and then sell our players as I fully expect to happen.

I think this change was not a big deal, as the goalies are about the same. We shouldn't waste too much time worrying about McCarthy's feelings: he's young and he'll deal with it. Perhaps there's a subtext to Brian's choice, as it may be a way of keeping Feds at the club. If Adam ended the season out of the team he might be more inclined to listen to offers. The decision reminds me of when Coppell brought Hahnemann back over Feds--for exactly the same reason: experience.

His kicking was atrocious. And I genuinely think the good saves he did make, he made look a lot harder than they actually needed to be.

I was a supporter of Fed because he's a decent keeper and definitely pulls off some spectacular saves, but having seen McCarthy I think he's in a different class and will get better and better as he gains experience and fills out a little more.

I don't disagree that McCarthy's stats are as good. I was really making the point that they are similar to Federici's.

The key points to me are Fed's greater experience and better distribution.

In any case it is Brian's call. I think he will either bring back Federici on Saturday as he has an excuse to do so after the defeat or else stick with McCarthy throughout.

I'd counter the "greater experience" with the fact that someone who'd been playing continuouslyy is bound to be in better form and confidence than someone coming in cold after not playing for the best part of 3 months.

I'd also argue with the claim of "better distribution" - I just don't buy it at all.

Andrew is famously wrong about most footballing judgements. Not for nothing did he gain the moniker, "the older Ian Royal".

The keeper in possession stays in goal until poor performances make it necessary to drop him.

I was not going to bother to respond but was a bit intrigued by your comments.

1/ Obviously Brian McD has little knowledge of football as far as you are concerned - as he did just as I thought he would and brought Fed back in for Coventry.

2/ I did think we would survive in the second PL season (and still think we should have done) but apart from that my footballing judgements are usually proved correct.

3/ I am intrigued about the older Ian Royal comment. I have never seen anyone call me that - could have missed it I suppose. Not sure if it is a slight on me or not.

Anyway better luck next time in your attempts at being critical – it must have been embarrassing for you when Fed was recalled.

Yes he only kicked one ball out of touch, but he kicked several straight through to their keeper when trying to get an assist on a Long goal. Any kick that gives them easy possession is poor in my opinion. Drop it in the middle of the park and at least we have a chance to pick up a second ball or put pressure on and force an error.

I just always feel much, much, more confident and comfortable when McCarthy is in goal.
