Favourite ever Reading Kit?

by The Goat was fed » 27 Apr 2011 11:35

Having just had a fairly angry moment on the Alex McCarthy to be dropped thread, I need something a bit more light-hearted!

As some of you know I do some work for The Football League and npower are about to launch a competition that invites fans to upload and share stories about their best and worse football kits. This got me thinking about some of the finest (and least finest) Reading kits.

A personal favourite of mine has always been our Red and Yellow hoops (1992-93?) and the Simod Cup courage kit (my first ever shirt bought for me as a baby!). Having said that we've had some horror shows as well...the Waitrose away kit of last season (green shorts, white shirt) was ruddy awful.

Separately, if anyone has the aforementioned Red and Yellow hooped shirt they may be willing to part company with - PM me!

I liked the bright orange away kit of 08/09.

I disliked the grey and black hooped away kit of 07/08.

Favourite home kit - Any that have hoops that go all the way round with white shorts and white scocks! 92/93/94 home kit stands out as a personal favourite as thats when we reverted to hoops.

Favourite Away Kit - I too liked the red and yellow hooped 3rd kit of the same time, born out of some over fussy ref who made us play in Brighton's away kit when we attempted to play in the Blue and Yellow hooped away kit (another personal favourite shirt). I also liked the Spain style kit we used for our away kit around 99/2000, the Simod Cup winning away shirt which we had for years and the Yellow Shirt with Blue Shorts effort I can't remember the year (2001/02?) certain it was sponsored by Westcoast

Worst home kit - Either the TV interference home shirt of the early 90's (Dundee had the same home kit and Rotherham used it for their away kit), the current one with the plain blue back panel or the premiership one with the plain white back panel.

Worst away kit - Agree with Elliott here the black and grey effort from the premier league time was a shocker. I didn't like the all black one we had around 2004/05(?) or the current away kit.

For the future I'd quite like us to go retro and have narrow hoops as used in the 70's.

Both kits from 05/06 were my favs. And the yellow and blue Paleda 93/94. The worst was the hat painting thing in the 80's. 10 years time will be 150 years of RFC wonder if we wil do a Southampton and bring out an original replica kit?

03/04 and 09/10 home kits were the most recent two to have hoops all the way round and no back panel, therefore making me a big fan. 05/06 will of course always hold special memories, despite the back panel :( ... hoops not going all the way round :x ...and it wasn't even proper royal blue
I never saw it worn but 93/94 yellow and blue hoops was a great away kit, and the black and red this season makes up for our awful home kit!

Best home shirt is obviously the Brooks/pelada shirt from 92-94

Best away shirt is the "spain style" of 01-02

Any kit with orange is always going to be horrible but the black away kits have been OK.

Favourite shirts overall were the classic hoops circa 92-95. Also really liked the red and yellow 3rd kit from 93-94. Regarding the OP, I believe I may still have my old shirt in the loft...

Best home shirt is the 1994-5 one, the one we appeared in at Wembley against Bolton.

Worst home shirt has to the Hat TV interference in 1991.
