17-21/Concessions

by royals4ever » 30 Apr 2011 18:51

In regards to the 17-21 concession tickets RFC have, I assume it's as I expect, but does anyone know how loose the club is on this for full-time students who are over 21?

I realise the age bracket is there mostly to benefit the younger fans with less disposable cash, but as a full-time student, I'm no better off for now being 22. I know at Portsmouth the concession bracket is inclusive of all-ages of students (but then, I suppose Pompey need paying fans more than Reading...).

Needless to say, if the concession bracket was inclusive of students, RFC would have had one more person willing (and just about able) to cough up the £250 for a ST; £400-odd is just too much.

Earn some money, the age bracket is as it is as people have to provide ID with Age, the old student system was abused too often.

Think yourself lucky, in the past it was children, U-16 or adult rate.

Fair play; figured there was a decent reason behind it.

Cheers

When you're living in the real world and paying taxes, not out on the streets rioting over Countdown - then you can have a voice

This is how my nephews pay for their football. They use kids members cards, bring their adult card with them in case they get checked, produce the adult, get waved through and swipe the kids card.

Surely the green and amber light would prove to the steward on the other side they are using a junior's card?

How many stewards do you see watching the turnstiles?

I spent ages paying £8 to watch Reading with a collection of old student cards.

I know that, but surely there would be no need to take the adult card if no one was going to check? They do check every now and then, which is how people get caught doing it

Peopel definitley have been caught and banned for it - the club does watch out for it.

Am I missing something here, they have an adult card in case the concession card is pulled up, so they enter the ground with two cards?

I'm assuming they scan the concession card, then if challenged because they look too old they show the adult card (which isn't livened up for the game).

which can be run through that card reader thing, which would show that it is not valid for that particular game.

Correct - but the stewards inside the ground don't have those card reader things - only the redcoats outside do.

I recently, inadvertantly, held my season ticket to the reader instead of my grandson's child one and let him through and I then held his ticket to the reader and entered. The steward, who watched the whole event, didn't challenge me; which, whilst welcome and sensible, was totally unexpected. So I suppose that leads me to conclude that at least one steward has common sense and isn't afraid to use it. Of course he may have thought that I looked old enough to qualify for an OAP concession; which I'm not by a long way.
