Cardiff away - parking

by yfbeater » 09 May 2011 18:00

Has anyone used the dedicated away parking at Cardiff's new ground? Did it take ages getting out after the game? Any other suggestions?

I parked there for the league game. Just like at the Madejski they hold you back for about 20 mins after the final whistle to get pedestrians away. The sign-posting out of the stadium car park is less than helpful to get you back on the M4. If you get there early enough there is stacks of parking in the area and you'd probably get away more swiftly - just like our place really.

The Athletic Stadium across the road from the ground is always good for parking.

I parked there on 1st Feb and got out fairly quickly once they allowed movement but it took ages to get back to the M4. Having said that last season I parked in the school that I always used for Ninian and the congestion was awful around there as well and at least the new car park is right outside the away turnstiles.

It did take a while when we parked there, might want to consider elsewhere

If we win, you might find the local constabulary keep you in the car park compound even longer whilst they try prevent friendly locals congratulating Reading supporters on their fine victory.

Yes. It is amazing. you drive right up and park outside the stand. totally fenced in with the away end. After the game you queue with other away fans to get out, but we were away in about 15 mins after the league game.

Do you have to pre book a permit for this?

A fenced in away car park appeals to me. Last time I drove there (2-0 loss) a big gang of Cardiff waited outside and our car was the other side of the police line. Seriously unpleasent and took about an hour to get back to the car unscathed.

There is the away car park, but for those that don't want to pay then exit the A4232 as normal, but instead of heading to Sloper Road, just before the Sloper Road junction there is a left hand turning called Lawrenny Avenue. The first couple of hundred yards are permit controlled, but the rest of the road is unrestricted. Parked there three times now, had no issues whatsoever. Easy to get out of as well.
