FiNeRaIn tbh gus, having re-read my post, can you point out the bits which you disagree with or think are " perpetuating the hate"?. You really don't see the provocation of having a manager who is in debt to the IRA, acts like a thug in the media, has openly made a sectarian rant in his playing days( video already posted in this thread), taunts crowds by standing in the centre circle with his hands on his ears, etc. The problem is lennon. No he shouldn't have to suffer this abuse, but its also no coincidence tommy burns or martin o'neill didn't receive this type of treatment either because their conduct was acceptable. Not sure how it can be resolved, the latest bullet could be a hearts fan or possibly another club because the hate has spread that far so the police have their work cut out. Lennon doesn't help himself, instead of keeping a low profile after the last incident he continues to shout his mouth off and draw attention to himself, some are actually suggesting he enjoys it all.

Any people singing sectarian chants, or chants in supporting of terrorist organisations should be punished. That includes everyone from Rangers and Celtic right down to Ayr or Partick Thistle. It has no place in football. If you read some of the Rangers forums there is a big united front who want it stamped out of our club because its dragging the name through the gutter. If you go onto the Celtic forums, they conveniently ignore the IRA chanting and also have threads ( made by admins) with sectarian names, its really worrying.

(http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/topic/8502764/1/) HUN thread 183 pages...really?

christ i give up

kerrydale is tame stuff compared to follow follow

lennon is the problem, ok then, let's shoot him or terrorise him into quitting - great solution

also explain why mccourt, mcginn, godman and mcbride got bullets/bomb if it's just a lennon thing?

the problem is the deep-rooted one-eyed bigotry and sectarianism that is absolutely endemic in the game up there, hopefully you can admit that or perhaps you instead want to focus all of society's problems onto one northern irish nationalist ginger hot-headed catholic

let's be clear, the guys who are sending the bombs and bullets should be in the dock, not neil lennon (dislike him all you want but there is no justification for the shit he has had to deal with)

people can blame and abuse and deflect as much as they want, i expect nothing less but the reality is we need to work together to solve this, to attempt to eradicate the evil in the game, some joint statements from celtic/rangers would be good for a start and as I have already said to you finerain, stop playing the circlejerk blamegame, it's a game for the many low-minded brainwashed cretins on both sides out there and i'd expect better from you

no doubt however the thread will continue in that vein and that ultimately says it all, if we can't come to some kind of consensus on a Reading fc General football messageboard then what chance of those who are immersed in the thick of the cesspit that is Scottish football

Are you blind? I've already said his treatment isn't justified and they should be punished. You have selective reading like most other celtic fans. Its really antagonising when you keep making the same points and comments when there is no argument to be had. You are arguing with yourself as no one has claimed that he should be treated that way. No doubt some of his abuse is sectarian related, I agree. However, burns and o'neill were catholics and were NOT abused anywhere near to this level because they conducted themselves properly as professional managers. He doesn't, he is a bigoted fan who got the job and is being treated like one, even if its completely wrong ( which I agree it is). He is consistnetly making offensive comments in the media and has brought the scottish game into disrepute this season, he's hated by most fans outside the old firm. You need to accept that whether you like it or not, its nothing to do with his religion other than a small number of idiots. This guy was even sent to the stands in bilbao during a friendly. Is that even possible?

Save us the high and mighty rubbish at the end too, Celtic are very good at playing the victims, there is a reason why they have the slogan " offended by everything, embarrassed by nothing" attached to them. Celtic fans were clashing with police last night, it got mentioned a few times on the radio and sky, so I hope those fans are punished as well as the pitch invader.
However you have failed to mention that because it doesn't suit your agenda, the exact same thing you claim of other parties.

yawn you say his treatment isn't justified and then you keep looking for reasons to justify it - a slightly incoherent argumentative strategy if you ask me

yup celtic are playing the victim, jeez bullets and bombs sent to staff, players and fans, manager attacked during a game and thugs with guns and ulster flags outside the training-ground, making a mountain out of a molehill aren't they, the little crybabies

i have already said lennon's behaviour is not good

i have already acknowledged the ira chanting is out of order and this is a societal problem and the nasty stuff doesn't affect celtic only

i have praised walter smith

i have congratulated rangers on their title victory and particularly emphasised how great an achievement it is in light of their financial circumstances

i am asking for ideas/solutions but I may as well be talking to the wall

i know exactly how your posts will go so save your breath if it's the same old circle-jerking

CONCLUSION: both clubs claim the moral high ground and think the others are horrible c*nts and some are inescapably trapped in that hypothesis, i will leave the subsequent posts in this thread as evidence of same and only hope that a more enlightened and open-minded approach is taken by those charged with attempting the near insurmountable task of improving things

I get that, Rangers are not involved in this incident however. It was a hearts fan, its upto them to ban him for life and have him face his jail term. I didn't say the attacks were justified, i'm explaining why they happened. Celtic have appointed a very controversial manager, this doesn't justify death threats and physical violence by a long shot, I condemn it.

Agree with both Fine Rain and Gus-this sectarian stuff has to end.
In England old Catholic clubs like Everton and Man Utd are no longer just followed by Catholics and with two protestants in Fergie and Smith having managed these two clubs in recent years it shows that religion can be taken out of football.
The same applies to players at the two Glasgow clubs where there is now a mix of Catholics and non-catholics at both clubs.
A lot of it comes from tribalism amongst the poor but there are plenty just as poor in Liverpool and Manchester and in both cities the "hate" is for the other team on footballing grounds and no longer religious leanings.

Scotland is not a backward country but in this aspect it comes across as one.
"Kick racism out of football" has been a tremendous success in English football-it looks as though a similar type of scheme needs to be adopted in Scotland and a very hard line taken on those that step out of line.

Unfortunately in all of us there are deep-rooted prejudices and for most of my life I confess to being anti-catholic but that has nothing to do with what happens on a football pitch and I think that somehow the link to religion of both clubs has to be gradually broken.
For a start Irish flags should be banned.
It has to start somewhere and if Celtic made that inital gesture there just might be a response from Rangers-you have to hope.

I do agree with the earlier poster that sectarian schooling in Scotland and Ireland perpetuates the problem.

You really don't get it these people take their religious beliefs very seriously, it's a way of life for them and not some silly fad. Which is why they go to football matches on a Sunday.

Gus, as a social problem it is not something you can change over night

Introducing bans, penalty points closing stands... we see the imapct these suggestions have had with fans now looking to get points deducted from the opposition

So far this season people have claimed

the bouncy is sectarian
penny arcade is sectarian
the hockey cockey is sectarian
waving union jacks is sectarian

Is someone going to publish the "authorised scottish football songbook"? Any other songs are unacceptable, no new ones that have not been authorised and put in the book first

My suggestion for fixing the problem, which will take a generation on two, is to let people grow up together, start by stopping the seperate schooling which creates the "we are different from them mentality.

I think if they concentrated on football rather than this silly religious stuff they might get better at football.

I have no idea if Neil Lennon is any more of a twat than 90% of football managers - who all do silly things like saying other teams gets favoritism, or criticise other teams for not trying, or gesticulating to opposing fans. Some do even worse things like accusing the ref of cheating with the opposition manager that results in death threats and the ref having to retire - or saying the ambulance service deliberately delayed picking up an seriously injured player.

But really, attacking the manager, death threats, letter bombs? Jesus, is Scotland really this backward?

I think we should start a bad natured, vitriolic campaign against Cardiff City and their manager Dave Jones.

I'm putting some bullets in a jiffy bag right now.

"truly shocking"... as Johan Mjallby said at the end of the Hearts/Celtic game... "we`ve never seen anything like that before, terrible"

Apart i suppose from the Celtic fan who attackd Milan keeper Dida...

and i suppose you might need to consider the Celtic fan who tried to attack Ally Maxwell...

and well, thinking about it there was the Celtc fan who attacked Strachan when he was a player...

but Johan is absolutely correct... apart from those incidents we`ve never seen anything like it!!!

They are f*cking scum and just like their scouse brothers... they run crying like f*ck when they`re at the wrong end of any shit...

Two pitch invasions to attack a referee in may 99 shame game, then he was hit by a coin on the pitch and the game had to be delayed - never seen anything like that before.

Anyway here is celtic being caught out by "undercover reporter" for attacking stewards and chanting IRA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiRcMn_tgFk&sns=em

Its a shame Neil Lennon was also sent bullets again, but Rangers fans have found the culprits and want them brought to jusice.
