Is Kebe better than Gilkes?

Two quality wingers, imagine having both in your team!
Neither could head the ball either.

I never saw Gilkes at his best. Kebe is a country mile better than the Gilkes of 95 onwards. By then Gilkes really was essentially just all pace.

Yeah, but what about 92/93. He was quality, tore teams apart, scored loads too, as well as setting up many of Quinn and Archies goals.

I'd say they're about the same.

No. I much preferred Gilkes. His crossing was hit 'n' miss but he was a great winger. I used to love how he'd collect the ball, knock it ahead of his marker and he was gone. The Southbank would react immediately. Really miss having a player like him in the side.
Don't get me wrong, Kebe on his day is brilliant, but he doesn't half nearly enough of those days and can go missing for a handful of games at a time.

Back in 92 and 93, Ian didn't give a damn about Michael G.

Gilkes could play full back too a position that Kebe most certainly couldn't cover at!

Gilkes for me was better then Kebe is now however for some reason its always quite exciting when Kebe gets the ball as you never know what he's going to do next! Gilkes as pointed out earlier mainly played the ball down the line beat the defender for pace then crossed it usually into the Tilehurst End

Gilksy's style of play in 2011 would not be any where near as effective as it would in the early 90's.

Defences are far better now than they ever were back then. A kick and rush style that was Gilksys would not be effective today.

For me , theyre like for like in the way they put supporters on their feet. (Mind you at EP we mostly all stood anyway!)

Kebe has more skill on the ball than Gilksy ever had.

For that reason only ...Kebe > Gilksy (but only just)

I'm going to wait until Kebe does 5 years commentating for Reading107 before I do my comparison.

Kebe hasn't done enough to be better than Gilkes. Yet.

Gilkes was influential in 2 Championships 8 years apart, was part of our best ever team (at the time) and won us the Simod Cup. His performance in the final I could never get tired of watching. Fastest thing ive ever seen on a football field. It was worth going to EP just to watch him.

Robbed in the Rumbelows sprint challenge, 3rd despite still recovering from a broken leg. Well clear after 50 metres as well.

if you actually speak to Gilksy he'll tell you he was pissed up the night before the sprint as well.

To me Kebes not even better than Little yet. He could be our best ever winger, but that will take consistency! He certainly has the potential.

TBF I was always a big fan of Gilkes but consistent is not an accolade you could bestow on him.
