rfcmatt for me he lacks concentration in small games (Sheff Utd at Home for example) .

Or perhaps just in games where the opposition have a U in their name?

You know I think we are are kind of OK to survive in the prem as we are - we are no worse than Blackpool for example. Obviously I would like three or four first team quality signings to make mid table respectability more of a reality and I suppose that even Mr Mad will stretch to that. What we do have is a superb team spirit and its all done the Reading way - which persoanlly I am proud of.

We do have some old dogs that need to go if we go up though - Matt Mills certainly isn't one of them.

Its a good opening post brenders. I think the players you mentioned might not get much of a look-in which would be a real shame...same happened with Cox

agreed.and after the seasons theyve had, making real strides, theyd be gutted to have to take a back seat. I know this team aint no 106.but everyone thought they wouldnt do it in the prem either.and they were wrong.maybe some of these lads would be good enough too.

It'll be ok if we don't go up, we won't need a new team and we'll get to play Southampton and Brighton which will be just like being in the Prem. :D

Thread title needs to be changed to 'when' not 'if' and 'when' we go up, keep the core of the team together and blend in the youngsters. Add a piece or two at reasonable prices and let's see how we do. Remember, we don't need to be the best, just better than the bottom three. Keep doing things the Reading way. Keep the wages and salary the lowest in the prem and turn a profit for a season or two before being relegated and starting the process all over again.

Royal Lady I bet we don't bring in many new players - we're guaranteed £90million - and even if we go straight back down - we're quids in, so SJM will be happy with that.

Quids in?? I'll place money sjm will say we're skint within months

Income goes up - but so do expenses if you want to compete.

Here's an analysis of this year Premier League finances - look at those wage bills. http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/55741334

For a long time people have said we should do as WBA do, happy yo yoing, and keep things sensible.

Didn't know Hale and Peace(sic) owned a club.

tbh yo-yoing would be much more fun than "mid-table mediocrity"

Yo-yoing would be fine - exciting a noisy minority would see every relegation as "lack of ambition" and failure to invest!

Not a bad player but likely to be over-priced

will we spend £2.5mill on a player over the age of 25? not a reading signing, but you never no if shane long goes. id rather see a natural goal scorer to go with one of the other 3 strikers. kevin phillps or even jay bothroyd if we can afford the wages.
