Swansea to honor a player

by Royal1983 » 23 May 2011 06:45

Don't know if the link works: http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?s ... tif_t=like

If it doesn't all it says is: Don't know if you have heard about it, but there is an idea going around for us lucky lot going to Wembley - on the 40th minute of the final, all Swans fans stand for a minute in tribute to Besian - think there will be a banner made to this effect - it would be a wonderful tribute! - Copied from the Swansea Vs. Reading (Championship Play-Off Final) Page on Facebook.

Thought this might be a good thing for the Reading supporters to get involved in as well to show some respect and to tribute a player (much the same as any other team does before kick off ect.) - he died in his sleep at the age of 22 in May 2010, just before he reached the first team, the 40th min is due to his squad number being 40 (I think but am not sure).

We have to celebrate chris Armstrong, although not deceased, still a very sad and emotive thing for many royals and football fans alike.

Already seen and noted, however that will appear as individual effort. Like Swansea I would like to see a collective 39k royals celebrate stretches services

I'm sure once we get a chant going - that it will carry.

So going back to the post are people willing to join in with what Swansea propose to do at 40mins in to show respect to a footballer or not? I am going to and think it would be good if others did the same... yes there should also be something for Armstrong and no doubt we will all sing his name as he is a true gent and a legend....

Why can't Swansea honour their player and we honour Armstrong?

Swansea will struggle to get the message around their own 39,000 fans, let alone us being able to get it around ours. As Rex says the only way is with a stand up for....... Chant.

It's nice to honour a player, but it would be better done before the game rather than in the middle of it.

Sounds like a good idea and a great way to show that fans from different clubs can show respect together - only trouble is, is the moaning and whining we'd get from people who want to sit down and don't see why they should join in. This will therefore need messaging as to what it's all about to go out from both supporter's clubs, both football clubs and both sets of local media

And if the match is terrifically exciting at the appointed time then the whole thing will be forgotten/ignored by 90% of people.

^greed. This idea was banded about before the last game and didn't happen. Unfortunately I think this will only distract the players.

I'm happy to honour the poor lad along with the Swansea fans.

RIP Besian.

I shall be standing up and clapping on the 34th minute in honour of my mate titch who passed away. Might also do the 82nd for my Grandad.
