The most one sided play-off final ever

by JR » 30 May 2011 19:22

We had 16 corners they had 1. We had 19 shots they had 6.

It's a travesty that we lost, but fair play to them for ruthless efficiency.

Dowd was dreadful even if be got the pens right.

19 shots really?

2 headed goals
Hit the sunday roast

Don't remember De Vries having to make any really good saves, one in the first half straight at him. Think that shows more how stats don't tell a picture.

They scored 4 we got 2. As the op says, you have to give it to them for putting their goals away. The 3rd was a good first time shot.

The way we came out in the 2nd half was fantastic. After we hit the post I knew that was going to be it for us.

Can't get over how distraught Long was. I think he realised that was his last game in a Reading shirt.

Roll on next season...

It made a mockery of all the Barcelona comparisons flying about this week

I'm pretty sure Barcelona don't ever have to defend as desperately as Swansea had to in the second half today.

That's better. Never felt the need to do that with anyone before, but this one really takes the Abbey Crunch.

Anyone got a good source for stats from the game? How many fouls were Swansea awarded 1st half versus Reading? Seemed very one sided at the time.

We got one (the foul on Federici), don't know how many they got but it ended up 4 against 18 at the final whistle.

+1 Likewise.

It's usually funny reading the posters trying to wind you up. Even Kes, with his limited range, makes me laugh sometimes although entirely for the opposite reasons that he imagines.

The SDR's (and son) are curios for their fantastic arrogance and/or my fascination with just how you, presumably, fulfil your life by posting nonsense on every forum.

However, I've finally lost it with 1TeamInBerksRFC. No wit, nothing to say. Whichever poster this is should be ashamed.

It wasn't a travesty that we lost. We had lots of play but did very little with it. Our chances were not good chances on the whole. They created more good chances than we did, and the team that creates most of those has the best chance of winning.

True, two of their chances were gifts from penalties, but the lad had a very good chance of scoring if he'd not been brought down for the first penalty. The 2nd penalty was a total gift though.

I'm just glad it wasn't 3-3 at that stage, as it would have been a real sickener to have lost to that.

19 shots, 11 on target, versus Swansea's 6 shots (4 on target)

No, not a travesty, but Karacan had two shots blocked, Mills had a great shot blocked, Hunt, hit post etc.

The tiniest bit of luck and it could have been a very different result.

Two horrible defensive decisions on our part. We weren't outplayed, we simply blew it.

TBH that 3rd goal finish was superb controlled first time strike, Dobbie missed a much easier chance before being subbed before the end..bit of fringe player at Swansea, we should make an offer.

Swansea 55% possession RFC 45% suggests that it wasn't as one sided as all that ?

From the stats I have obtained it read as follows

Reading Swansea
17 Shots 4
9 On Target 2
47% Possession 53%
16 Corners 1
18 Fouls 4
3 Offside 0
0 Saves 7
3 Yellows 3
1 Reds 0

Before anyone picks up on the shots on target, penalties aren't counted.

Also they only had 4 fouls given against them, 3 resulting in cards. Not that the ref was a bit one sided.
