Some people need to get real, players leave and new players come in that's the nature of the game. I know we'd all like to keep hold of our best players but if they want to play at a higher level then they will, also Madejski isn't wealthy enough to rinse £5-6 million on new players over a season so we have to be careful about who we bring in and hope they're up to the job. We've got some good players coming through and I have no doubt that the players that leave will be replaced, whether they're potentially as good is another question.

We'll be ok next season and I think we should look forward to another top half of the table finish. People can moan about Madejski and the club having no ambition but honestly do you know anyone wealthier that is willing to invest more in to the club than he does?

But the point is that he's not a benefactor - and that's what some people have a problem with.

He puts no money into the club and takes no money out. His big investment is in the stadium, hotel, training ground etc, and that'll be repaid when he sells the club.

But the club now stands or falls entirely on its own two feet - nothing in, nothing out.

Frankly I'm surprised Mr Dowd is the hate figure. Reading were, very, very, very lucky not to be playing with 10 men for most of the match. Dowd's decision not to send our Georgian off would have been an appalling one to any neutrals watching.

Do you have any real facts to substantiate that claim?

Personally, If I buy a failing business that customers were desperate to see saved and turn it around after investing large sums of my own money I would be a bit miffed if the customers started complaining that I had the audacity to take a dividend/charge the entity interest on the amounts invested. Furthermore I would object strongly to their suggestions that I stand aside for a buyer who isn't there to take over. Particularly when the business is in the best shape it's ever been in and trading at a profit compared to rivals.

Yes, a football club is a different to other forms of business, but it is still a business. As fans we have to factor that into our expectations.

Isn't he also still owed the money he put in for the years we consistently ran at a loss? Or has that been repaid and i missed it?

If the team's ambition is to stay in the Championship, and I am not saying it is but we'll see what happens over the summer, then we will struggle to remain in the Championship. So I disagree with the premise that there is no ambition, just a question of what our ambitions are. PL? Championship? A well run division 2 team? I cannot make that judgement until I see what transpires over the summer...

Just one word of caution, please let no-one try to claim that the extra cash derived from a very good cup run and a trip to the playoff final were already budgetted for at the start of the financial year!

If they do then I will blame the Chairman for not using that foresight to ensure we scooped the Euro Millions several times during the season and for not betting against us winning yesterday!

Fingers crossed. Reconciled to seeing Shane leave - he's given his all to us and deserves PL football next season but hope that McD will be given a substantial amount of the proceeds to reinvest. Unless we are going to dramatically change our style of play we need to sign someone in the Shane Long (2010/11) mould and that will cost money. At least there are some vaguely promising words from the Chairman "If people do leave, then no doubt we can compensate for it. If we let players go, we can invest in new players." but I hope he realises how significant the investment may need to be.

Agreed. I knew Shane was leaving if we didn't go up. And with the emergence of McCarthy I won't be gutted by Feds leaving. Nor Kebe. If we start losing players like Jem and Mills we will have no choice but to buy. But barring a mass exodus we do have enough here to field a solid team. If the team is going to be a contender for promotion again it depends on how much McD is given to spend. The thing that kinda bothers me is McD's loyalty to his players, especially the current ones. So instead of pushing to go out and get a striker we might see Hunt and Church up front...with McD confident that Church will be next year's Long in terms of being a player whom finally finds his form. I hope he does find his form, he was about as far off of it as a player could be this past season, but I am a bit worried that he won't and we'll be scuffling along in the bottom half of the table until the January window when we do pick-up someone.

Bottom line is this team is still solid and just one or two smart moves away from being a team which is a strong contender for promotion in 2011/2012. And hopefully Madjeski realizes that spending money is really an investment in his asset, the team. And if he really does want to sell it would be wise to make what he has as attractive as possible, within reason of course.
