Gigs (Not Ryan) at the Mad Stad this Summer?

by No Fixed Abode » 31 May 2011 11:41

Seems to have been quiet on the gig front at the Mad Stad for a few seasons now. Didn't Tom Jones do a gig there once? And I thought they were going to use it as a music venue in the Summer months to bring in additional revenue?

I see Swansea have Rod Stewart playing at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday - the only thing I can find for Reading is a Michael BubLOLe tribute act playing at the Jazz Cafe.

Lazy bztards! We really need a big decent music venue to attract good bands.

The weight of the equipment also causes damage to the deso pitch system, or whatever it is called.

Which is the same system as the new Wembley pitch?

I think it's just that the stadium is the wrong size for where it is to be attractive to concert promoters - it's competing with places in London as a venue, but the fact that it's not actually *in* London makes it less attractive to them.

If that makes sense ... I've not put it very well, I know, but if falls between two stools. It's neither a big provincial venue as it's still in London's catchment area, nor is it a big enough venue to compete with Wembley, Twickenham, Hyde Park, etc.

It's the sound here at Madejski - apparently they had so many complaints after Elton John and Red Hot Chili Peppers - the sound is apparently dreadful in the stadium and at parts of the ground you can hardly hear the live music. I know someone in the business who claims SJM Concerts and Live Nation have both received complaints about our stadium after their involvement with those gigs and the Summer XS thing that the radio station did at the stadium. In addition London is full of venues for bands of all sizes, and is just down the road whereas i struggle to think of any mid - large sized indoor venues in Wales except the obvious i.e. arena etc.

Poor planning whoever designed and approved the final design of the stadium then.

It can't help that it's not easily accessible by rail either!

It is an utter disgrace that the Thames Valley does not have a reasonable size concert arena, doesn't need to be an O2 or Wembley Arena, just something along the lines of the venues offered by the likes of Southampton etc.

Why? London has them, Southampton / Portsmouth have them, somewhere in between would be useless - no bands or promoters would ever come to it!

I did wonder why the 210fm thing was never on anymore.

I saw Busted there once. Or was it McFly - can't remember now.

There will be no Ryan Giggs playing at the Mad Sad next season, that's for sure.

He's even older than our older players - so we wouldn't want him anyway.

but the FA and wembley will happily oxf*rd football over for a few bucks.
we on the other hamnd view our pitch, and ability to play football on it as paramount
