Royal Lady If Shane Long had every intention of staying, why was he SO cut up and inconsolable after the game on Monday? Seemed to me that he'd been told he'd be off, if someone bid the figure that would trigger his release, and he knew he was off.

Not necessarily.

HE may have decided he wants to play Premiership football in 2011-12
and desperately wanted it to be with Reading FC.

And after all he CAN stay. RFC cannot force him to sign for anyone.

Third, he could simply have been overcome. Plenty of players cry after losing a final.

2 world wars, 1 world cup I agree Snowball.

If we can keep this squad together we have every chance of promotion again.

No reason why we shouldn't.

It seems to me COMPLETELY outrageous that there is even talk of people going. Why the **** should this be the case!??? Yet people still get their knickers in a twist when I dare to have a go a Madejski.

We have a good side. There is no reason not to hold onto it. Especially after the surprise, unwanted, unexpected lottery windfall of over £7million from the sale of Siggy.

I just don't get why not making it means we automatically have to lose players. UNLESS the players themselves really desperately want to go. In which case I'd say good riddance to the them.

There's the rub. Agents and players may get it into their head that they should be in the Premiership, and the club wouldn't want to keep an unhappy/ambitious player.

I could imagine them all staying together, bringing in a goal-scoring attacking midfielder, and maybe a full-back
and we take the league by storm. But if one goes and then the others think uh-oh and they leave, suddenly
it's a very different atmosphere and thoughts become those of survival

Wycombe Royal In my opinion the deduction for costs would be a fair bit more than 2 pounds per ticket meaning that Schards was optimistic at 55 pounds, which was my original point.

I'd have thought you'd have to go for at least an estimate of costs equaling 50% of revenue. So £55 x 86,000 x.5 x.5 = ~£1.2m.

As I said earlier, it's so pie in the sky as to be worthless. None of us knows anything about Policing or Stewarding costs, player & staff bonuses, travel & o/night costs, entertainment... is there a cost just for using Wembley? I've no fricking clue.

You reckon the teams are CHARGED to play in the play off final? :|

:| Who said that? The FL might have to pay the FA for the use of Wembley for all I know, which would clearly be another expense to take away from the income brought by the game.

Wembley is the FA's right? The Play offs are the FL's? The FL get's half the revenue minus expenses? It's not huge leap to guess that the FA might charge something for the use of Wembley. But as I said, the point is I simply have no idea.

So why pick 50% as an expenses cost?

You can make very sensible estimates. Say there is a steward for ever 100 spectators. That would be 850 stewards, one hell of a lot. What does a steward earn for the day? £100? If so that's £1 of every ticket goes to stewarding.

Not hard to make solid estimates of hotel costs. 30 players and 30 staff, say 30 rooms at £100 = £3,000. Pretty hard to imagine a bill over £6,000

A couple of luxury coaches for a coupla days? You gonna get that bill much over 3K?

I figured on about 6M coming in, 2M in charges leaving 4M, so the losing club getting 2M doesn't seem silly
and then there's TV money...

I figured part of the 50% we apparently have to pay the FL or the FA or whatever, is to cover the costs of playing at Wembley and the costs associated with playing there - stewards etc - not that out of what we make on the gate receipts, we then have to deduct stewards' salaries etc.

Svlad Final : All money (after expenses) from this game is split 50% to the FL "Pool" then 25% to each team.

Expenses are deducted first, then the FL get half of what remains, assuming Swansea follow the apparent unwritten rule, we then get the other half. So it looks like you figured wrong.

Well I was still right in that we don't have to pay "for using Wembley" out of "our" portion of money.

:| No, but then I never said we had to pay for using Wembley.

The cost of using Wembley, if there is one (and given how much it cost the FA to build there's almost got to be), comes out of it before our share is calculated. So it will still reduce what we receive from the ticket sales, as it's an expense.

Royal Lady I suspect a lot more people bought a season ticket prior to Monday, in the hope they'd get cheaper Prem football. Just a guess. Whereas when budgeting at the beginning of the season, they wouldn't have budgeted for a play off final or a sixth round of the FA cup either.

And many of those would have been pay on the day fans, so overall money in bank, but possible less per match overall.

I doubt there are many fans who pay on the day EVERY home game. :|

Pay on the day as in not ST holders, so in advance, wasn't is 10500 st holders and an average gate of 17600, so about 7000 pay without a ST inc away fans of course.

He may still have been gutted about missing that chance in the 1st half that would've put a whole different complexion on things

Policing, cleaners, the cost of actually using Wembley (or do you think the FL can use it for free?), etc.

There are many costs most of which haven't even been mentioned. Like I said the £55 average per ticket was otimitic and I hav e seen nothing that suggests I am not right in holding that opinion.

but that 55 x 85000 is 4,675,000, almost 5 Million

and we are suggesting we ended up with maybe TWO million

Is it just me that's bemused or why have all the main player's contracts been allowed to run down to 1 year. This seems a little late in the day to secure either the players interests to RFC or a a reasonable transfer value to the club. Mills cost originally £2m and next year he can walk away for nothing . No wonder squeaky Hammond is starting to put pressure on the board or are the board fickle enough to believe they are already paying enough in the real world (it could be that short contracts motivate the players to perform). If were offered £7m for Long, he will go, but nobody will do this with a 12 month release. Like Doyler only a renewed contract enabled a better transfer fee and this is down to the player's own interests and a clubs value of the players worth where no more motivation is required.
I'm surprised by the current situation and fully support Brian McD but he has a difficult job to balance the different interests or is there the alternative RFC plan where extract as much value with what's around you and everybody count themselves lucky that this is a club playing at a high level and progressing in its own way, slowly but surely.

NO

FFS you've been told about 5 times. The FL get 50% AFTER EXPENSES the teams get 50% AFTER EXPENSES

Snowball we're suggesting we probably ended up with way less than £2m, seeing as you have taken no account of expenses before splitting the revenue. oxf*rd hell, is everyone retarded, it isn't rocket science, it's basic.
