Not too bothered, he's only had one good season and that was in league two, at his age you would have expected a bit more consistency by now.

I think he'll be worth a punt especially being a free agent. He's different to what we've got and looks a very good finisher and being on a free we could pay reasonable wages and it still wouldn't really hurt the finances.

But we aren't looking for a striker to take a punt on as we are likely to only have space in the squad for ONE striker - do you really want that striker to be someone like Davies, who at the age of 25, has only had one good season in his career and that was in League Two?

I'd agree that we don't need another forward to gamble on so I'd be a bit luke warm on this one.

As for being a good finisher, you really can't tell on highlights reels as you don't see the ones they miss. His put some away well so, so he could be, but if he misses a shed load of others it doesn't quite look so good does it.

The fact is, Simon Church can finish just as well as that.......and i bet if he was in League2 this season, he too would have grabbed 20+ goals. So really he wont be any better than what we have.

We either need a decent league 1 or Championship striker OR a decent up and coming Premiership striker IF (when) Long goes

Sometimes one season is enough. Look at Shane Long, there must 4 or 5 Premier league clubs taking a look at him and he has only had one good season in his career and that was in the championship. I guess the spotlight is on anyone who scores over 25 goals a season

Shane Long though has only ever played in the top two divisions as well as on the full international stage. Not a very good comparison to illustrate the point you are trying to make.

Any Premier League team taking Shane Long on will be taking a gamble on him being able to reproduce this seasons form in much the same way as we will be if we made a move for this fella.

We've got a few forwards we don't really know what they might produce next season, what we could do with is a banker who we can be a lot more confident in their performance levels.

Brett williams is our punt for the new season. Church will be expected to step up, as will Hunt and Manset. don't be so sure we're after a replacement for long!!

I tend to agree. Having seen Brian in the last 18 months he seems to like to give players a chance, but is then quite ruthless if they are not performing. My guess is that even if Long goes we will start with the four strikers we have left and he will go into the loan market if they fail to produce.

Apart from anything else I am not sure there are many (or any) strikers in League 1 or 2 who are any better than what we already have.

Barnsley over Reading shows a lack of ambition from the player or happy to stay in or around the area where he currently resides

Or that Reading have never been interested enough to put an offer to the player.

Which is more the likely!

Transfer season seems to be moving early this year and this would be one bargain we already seem to have missed out on
