That would be a good move for Mills.

our money back plus £2m. step forward pearce (better) and the young and promising morrison and with it more pace in the back four. i like mills, he shows a lot of promise but he still makes far to many mistakes, lunges into too many needless challenges and gives away needless free-kicks. his temper holds him back too. for £3m this would be good for both parties, but we will need to bring in a replacement with Ivar also leaving.

With Shawcross, Huth and Faye in the pecking order, I feel Mills would have a lot of work on his hands!

Morrison is slower than Mills so good luck with that added pace...

Agree with everything apart from the pace from what I've heard of Morrison. Pearce is certainly slower. I think Pulis would either make him or bust him out after a season. He'd have big competition certainly.

i don't think he is but that's open to opinion, and mills needs a bigger turning circle than a hgv lorry!! he has lead feet. gets turned far too easily.

£3 million for Mills - I would drive him there myself but Stoke is a right shitehole.

Mills will fit in with the Stoke mantra of big and aggressive lumps tho

Mills may get turned easily but he is still relatively pacey - I think a lot of people are happy to make stuff up when they've got a vendetta against players

Strange isn't it. I don't rate him especially highly, and don't like him much. But I'd never say he was anything close to slow.

If we have to lose Long and Kebe I'd rather we didn't lose anyone else. Give Mills the Hunt, Long and Doyle contract extention and chuck in a sizeable release clause and hold onto Mills for one more year. If he continues to impress then we can look at this next year and get more out of it.

What do we have in terms of centre backs? Pearce, Mills and Morrison? Gunnarsson for cover. £3m might sound nice but we're already two centre backs light on last season.

Harte too. And I fancy that if we sell Mills we'll bring someone in, maybe not someone polished admittedly. Long is the only big loss to us, Kebe not far off, everyone else is relatively easily replaceable, even if replacing anyone is always a gamble in football.

Totally agree with this.
Long = goals.
Replacing a proven goalscorer is going to be difficult, because they are in short supply, and the market inflates their value, and the players' agents inflate their wage expectations.
We may well have a few quid sloshing around as the proceeds of Shane's sale, but the question remains as to how much of that money Brian will be allowed to use, and how flexible the wage budget is.
Frankly, I would not be in the least surprised if the club decided to "go with what we've got" in the short term, and keep the powder dry until January.

Yep, probably, but it's a massive gamble (added to the fact that we have never been big spenders during the January sales).

We got lucky last year with Shane because his goals effectively replaced those from Siggy the season before. I think it's highly unlikely that this could/would happen again from within the squad as it stands. Brian will know this of course and may even have something up his sleeve to surprise us with.

If Shane does leave and we go down the "go with what we've got" route again, I think we'll struggle to score goals.
