Rev Algenon Stickleback H
Barry the bird boggler Rushden & Diamonds have been expelled from the National Conference for financial reasons and Southport reprieved from relegation

Bishops Stortford must be fuming, as it means they'll be shifted to the Conference North.

Other than Histon, there's only one other club within 70 miles of them, and only two within 100 miles.

... and as a knock-on, I think that means Thurrock get reprieved with potentially more 'escapes' lower down - so as I wrote a week or two back virtually no relegation other than voluntary from STEP04 again this season.

Will potentially all shift again in the next week, as rumours abound that Stockport are drowning in debt too - and may not be able/permitted to take their place in the Conference. :?

Another 'rumour' I've picked up on - that I'm not convinced by - is that 'new boys' to the Hellenic for 11-12, Highmoor/IBIS, will apparently be playing their home games at Palmer Park Stadium.
I was positive I'd read long ago, that the pitch dimensions there precluded its use for anything other than Youth or Charity/Benefit games?
Peppard's meteor-like rise up the non-league ranks in the late 90s, came to a shuddering halt when they played there for a season and were subsequently found to be using a non-standard/illegal pitch length.
Got thrown out of the Vase because of it AFTER shocking Oxford City!

... or has someone ploughed up the Athletics track.

... perhaps they are using one of the outside pitches? :|

Very sad.

I used to go there quite regularly, as it is only minutes from the mother-in-laws. There was a time around pants day when they were more entertaining than us and they used to get crowds of 4000+.

I went back in November and nothing had changed, but the crowd was only 1000.

So whay have Stafford not been reprieved for the Con N? surely it should only effect the Northern half?

fully expect an overhaul in the next few years, Step 2 just cant carry on with an ever moving shift to Southern based teams.

Ridiculous isn't it? Gloucester City and Bishop's Stortford in the Conference Northern section...!! But then what do you do if there is such a heavy southern bias of teams?

Problem is in Step 3. 2 southern based leagues and 1 northern feeding into Conf N/S. All it takes is for 3 or 4 southern teams to go down from the Conf National one year and it will be a right mess!

Did my annual old gits bike ride, this time passing through Gloustershire.

Leaving the large village/ small town of Nailsworth I was gobsmacked to see at the top of thee hill..... Forest Green Rovers. Cracking looking ground (on 3-sides anyway), but where do there support come from? There can't be 1,000 people in Nailsworth

They don't get 1000 for league games unless the away team has a big following. Cracking ground there, used to love going to FGR.

..... And down the valley to the south is Step05 Shortwood you can see the FGR stand from their ground.

Mind you they rarely get into three figures crowdwise.

.... Think they knocked Gloucs C out of the FA Cup recently too - bizarre factoid that they were based nearer their opponents 'home' than they were!

Highmoor/Ibis not sure about that one either FoCcers!!. I will only believe it when the Hellenic League release club & ground details and they have their first game there as I very much doubt Reading Borough Council have gone to the expense of extending the pitch since Peppard played there!

As for Peppard I have a feeling they didn't even finish the season at Palmer Park and have a vague recollection they ground shared with someone else like Wokingham Town or Henley Town to fulfill their fixtures.

Step 3 needs sorting really, how is it fair on Cambridge and Truro to be playing each other while London-based teams never have more than a 60-mile journey

He was approached but wanted to concentrate on getting the Maidenhead gig should it become available.

Maybe Conference South regulars Maidenhead might deign to visit Windsor for a money-spinning pre-season friendly to raise funds for the plucky Comibined Counties non-entities.

I am really looking forward to the new season. First home game is a PSF against Slough Down on 16 July. I am sure that a reserve / youth team could be rustled up to give Maiders a decent game

BBC OS says

Hayes and Yeading appoint Nas Bashir as manager
Page last updated at 10:08 GMT, Thursday, 16 June 2011 11:08 UK

Hayes and Yeading have appointed former Reading player and coach Nas Bashir as their new manager.

Bashir, 41, replaces Garry Haylock, who left the club by mutual consent at the end of May having led them to 16th in Blue Square Bet Premier last season.

As well as his stint with the Royals, Bashir has also coached at Wycombe and England Under-21s and U-19s.

He will be assisted by Tristan Lewis, who has worked at the Wycombe and Reading academies.

Bashir said: "It's a great chance for me to build upon my reputation and be part of developing a club."

A statement on the club website read: "As one of the brightest young coaches in the national game, the club hope Bashir's appointment sends out a message of intention to the football world that Hayes and Yeading United Football Club continue to build and work towards their goal of becoming a Football League club."
