Ingi then Kish then Mills seems like we are losing too many centre halves, but I could live with him leaving. It's a bad sign as well - the slippery slope and all that.

I thought he was awesome in some of the late season games, but there were lots of times he didn't look like one of our first-choice centre-half pairing last season. He does hoof it as well. £4 million might not seem like a fortune, but you can't really stand in his way if he has a chance of playing in the premiership.

IF, for argument's sake we got 4M.

He was "2M" when we signed him.

How much of that 2M did we actually have to pay?
Would we get all the 4M up front?
Is there any sell-on clause?

IOW, how much actual money might we see? We'd have to buy at least one more CB

The Cap
He was suspended for a few games, so during the Cardiff game McDermott sent him up to sit with the fans, he walked all the way round the field, and came into the stand so we all sang ' theres only one matt mills' until he sat next to some random bloke. The Cardiff fans were a bit stop and stare!

Random bloke being his dad, llew. 8)

Whenever we get an offer we usually put it to the player. Now unless wolves offered peanuts and therefore we said no, does anyone think it's possible that we got the offer put it to mills before he went on holiday yesterday and he simply said no thanks!?

Yes. And no.

In the past when this sort of thing happened (Shorey comes to mind) the club say to the player "we have received a bid of £X for you. We think it undervalues you beacuse look at this player - sold for £XX; do you think you are worth 20% of him? We don't. If they make a serious and realisitc offer for you, we would recommend signing, but for that much?? Nah - you would be better to stay with us".

So there is a bit of kidology that goes on, to which the player's agent (sensing a bigger pay day for him if his player goes for more than the original bid) will recommend the player to stay put.

We've paid a maximum of £1.5 million for him.

A fair chunk was based on promotion.

Reading are ready to offer Mills a bumper contract worth up to £30,000-a-week to entice their captain to stay

Surely not?

Also...

Meanwhile, Wolves are set to unveil an unnamed Championship keeper as their second summer signing to join £5million Jamie O’Hara next week.

But manager Mick McCarthy has already seen one possible challenger to Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme slip the net , with Keiren Westwood joining Sunderland on a free transfer after his contract at Coventry expired.

moo Obviously we would have never leaked this information.

Therefore, it must have been Wolves, who are now surely trying to unsettle Mills.

Yeah, typical underhand tactics.

Just as likely to be us, the player or his representatives.

Wolves won't want anyone else sniffing around if they can help it so the only thing they have to gain is letting the player know to encourage him to push the club to let him go. The only other thing they have to gain is to let their fans know they're being active.

The player might leak it to encourage other bids from more desirable teams.

We might have leaked it to start a bidding war, send a signal to clubs sniffing round our players that we won't sell cheaply, or to prove to our fans that we're not just selling at the first opportunity.

I'm still a bit surprised at the interest in Mills, but I'm confident that if he is off that Hammond will get a good deal for the club.

This can't be true. Madejski, Hammond and McDermott were at Ascot all day yesterday and McDermott told Dellor outright there had been no bids at all yet. Unless it got rejected by the answerphone....

What I've read has only said Wolves made an approach yesterday and were turned away, not that they'd offered a formal bid.

Wolves are reportedly after De Vries, not Championship i know but seems to be their main target.

And  at the contract offer!

PEARCEY
Agreed but £3.5 million is a good price especially as he only has 1 year (I think) left on his contract.
Its a shame if he does go. He's still young and has potential.

Yes it is 1 year left. Wolves were reportedly bidding 3.5m for him earlier in the week, so if its true that they bid 3m they'll definitely come back with a higher bid. Whilst I don't think it would send out the right message to sell the captain (especially after seeing Ivar and Zurab go) 3.5m would be a good deal imo.

sorta going back to what I said earlier... but I wouldn't be surprised if any overall increase in a bid was small, but it became stacked more heavily on the initial payment, rather than add ons. I suspect any initial bid would have a fairly large part dependent on Premier League survival and appearances.

I just can't see mills being let go. There needs to be some continuity and losing the club captain just sends out the wrong message completely (although ingi was still official club captain last season).

Add that to 3 cb's going leaving barely any cover at the back, and it just makes no sense.

spoke to my guy at the club today and we've received no official bids for players. its very much is player a available and if so how much do you want for him scenario.

We've offered Mills a new deal, and we're hopeful he will sign it
