If a Swindon fan looks threatening just ask them to count the lovers they've had and they will fall asleep.

The Robins were looking to arrange a big fixture for what is expected to be their final friendly before their League Two opener against Crewe on August 6.

And the club have secured Championship opposition in the shape of Reading,

From their newspaper. Says it all.

You are quite right - CANCELLED, not POSTPONED per the OS.

Pedant mode off

Is there anything more dull or pointless to the football fan than pre-season friendlies?

As said already, it really depends what you get out of them.

A lot of people aren't interested, and there's no problem with that, but a lot quite enjoy them for what they are.

Exactly nothing.
I'm sure the players get more, it's a glorified training session.

Great for smaller clubs who get to see the odd well known player or two mind.

The fact is people do go to them, and must fancy going for whatever reason. Your belief that they are dull and pointless, remarkable as it may seem, can't be a universal belief.

As someone that has been to Swine v RFC on many occassions (mostly late 70s and early 80s) I can
hardly wait for this. Result is unimportant. A few of us 'old boys' will have a good day day out.
