I see nothing wrong with a player who has given 2 loyal seasons of service to the club leaving for a Premier League team that will probably double his wages. Life in football is short and he has to do what's best for his career and his family.

2 loyal seasons of serivce? lmfao. Deary me.

What was wrong with that, Rangers fan? Mills hasn't let anyone down since he's been here, he took a bit of a knock under Rodgers but proved his worth under McDermott. Just a shame about his hot head but he's a good player who has been very professional up to now about his future.

i dont think hes questioning if hes good, proffesional, or sensible, simply that if he leaves now it would be wrong to affix the word loyal to his term here

FiNeRaIn You don't have " two loyal seasons" when you sign a contract its expected you see it out. Loyalty is shown long term, not the short ass quote of two years. Get a grip.

Shows that the FA have to sort out football players/managers contracts.......it makes a joke of the whole system ...if you sign a contract then thats it...both ways

And he has gone public as saying he wont demand a transfer!

He's been and is being loyal. It's actually in Reading's best interest to sell him with one season to go before he leaves on a free and is currently worth £3-4m, more than trebling what we paid for him 24 months ago.

thats not loyalty,

profesionalism yes, but loyalty , no.

and its only in our best interests to sell him because he has disloyally refused a new contract.

Agree with Brendy - He's not being loyal ...he hasnt asked for a transfer as he would lose any payments due as detailed in his contract ..loyalty is sticking with a club come what may...hes refused an improved contract...having said that it is hard to readily think of a player that is loyal nowadays ...and it goes back to an earlier posts along the lines of "greedy selfish b*stards who are only interested in the money "

Ask yourself why he won't had in a transfer request.

Svlad Cjelli
Reading777 RFC need to sit down with Mills and his agent to draw a line in the sand one way or another as this saga could go on and both parties will find themselves in a position of disadvantage, Mills losing a season of higher wages/top flight experiance, plus if he stays we lose £3m on a Bosman next summer and the ability to find a suitable long term replacement of whom wishes to fight for our cause.

Don't you think that will have happened already?

Without any of us being a fly on ceiling at board room level the opinions any of us give on this matter is only opinion formed on speculation - With that in mind, I think Matt Mill's has a view that a possible comination of our wage/terms/conditions package we have been rumoured to offer him initially is outweighed by the interest he has received from other clubs promising his dream. It's possible they could be at the early stages of negotiation, therefore my point made is should this drag onto next season then both parties concerned could lose out.

If your referring to us already lining up suitable replacements for Matt Mills, don't you think we would have a better chance of brokering such a deal sooner rather than later using some of the potential £3m/£4m in the kitty rather than waiting until end of next season where funds may have dried up more and the players we had in mind being unavailable?

...and also what is ambition...playing at a level of football that will bring trophies etc OR playing at a level of football that will fill the bank balance right up ?

Put it this way ..if he was offered less wages to play with Wolves in the Prem League, as opposed to the higher wages staying with Reading ...what would he do ???????????? :?

My interpretation is that Mills is holding out for Wolves or another Premiership team rather than Leicester. Leicester coming in for him is unexpected and another option if that doesn't happen but he's stringing it out in the hope someone else comes in. Not signing a new contract with Reading is like saying, accept their bid or I'm going for free as I assume he could just not agree terms with Leicester even if Reading have accepted their bid.

Could be wrong though. :?

whats the dream that you refer to ? Winning title, Winning a cup or just a bigger pay packet ? ....admire him if its the first two but it obviously the last one ....and of course we would all like to earn more but when you are a footballer at the level of Mills...then its more a case of shall i be a greedy ...or outrageously greedy....thats the world of football...and Sky have a lot to answer for imho .....

Sarah Star Well, Mills looks happy enough in his new Reading kit. Must have taken the photos before he declined the new contract.

I agree with your points entirely, the aspiration we hold out for a genuinely passionate footballer putting points 1 & 2 ahead of point 3 is becomming more extinct by the day due to your other thoughts "greed & sky".... The key question is how much pay is enough £500k, £1m, £2m or even £10m per annum (Ronaldo, Tevez etc) to provide an adequate living for someone who has 10 years on average at the top 2 levels?

Lets not forget as well many people from within and outside of football have had to re-train and learn new vocations to make a living, so allot of us advocating the message "footballers to grab the cash when they can" should bear in mind that no-one has the divine right to retire at 35 (however appealing that luxury may seem) and football isn't the center of the universe. If fit and able theres plenty more opportunities in the real world ex-footballers could diversify into, especially with a cash platform in place to help while your looking or training!

How long until Pearce goes back to having no pace or passing ability and being the worst CB in the clubs history?

Straight after Mills is sold or will Floyde and co wait for the first goal conceded next season before they start prancing around like a 50 pence tart?

You didn't bother reading my earlier post when I said that Mills probably wasn't an awful lot better than Pearce anyway.

Sandman? More like sand in your eyes, man.
