Could accept him going to a prem club, but another championship club sticks in the throat a bit.

Lol at the club websites eagerness to point out he was born in leicester, trying to make excuses for him!?

Who cares where he goes? He was never worth half that money and was a thoroughly dislikable bloke both on and off the pitch.

£4.5m rising to possible £5.5m?

If true, yet again Hammond plays a blinder.

It remains to be seen if Mills accepts the offer on the table from Leicester. He has now shown his true colours though, it's the money, not the football or captaincy of our great club that floats his boat........

Will we EVER see a player who is happy to stay where he is without feeling the need to move sideways, just because it means more money.

I've said before how SKY etc has ruined football. Time was when players stayed at a club because they were happy there, earnt fair money and felt part of the community - nowadays they're all in it for the millions. Testimonials are more or less a thing of the past now - these new young crop of players will rarely stay at a club beyond their original contract, let alone 10 years.

Of course it's for the football as well as the money. Leicester are showing their ambition we aren't so of course he's going there. Contrary to popular belief footballers do actually like winning things.

A good financial deal for the club and fans have never forgiven the finger.
The only thing about this kind of transfer as with Doyle and Gylfi is that the intentions of our club are clear-there is no craving to return to the Premier League and it is more now a case of if it happens it happens but the club has no great ambition to return to the top level.

I understand the reasoning behind it that financial security and indeed caution is the prime consideration with our club but (just as it did when Neil Webb went to Pompey for only £87,500 IIRC)it still grates that our player has gone to the opposition rather than stepped up a level.
Oh and let's not hear any more about moving to a higher level for footballing reasons-why don't players just act honestly and say that they have gone for the money ?
In this money-mad world of ours nobody would begrudge that but please don't give platitudes, just tell the truth (are you reading this Nasri ? ).

Really......?? Sometimes loyalty and status is more important than money. I started a small I.T. company 10 years ago with two colleagues and we now employ over 20 people. I could have earnt more by working for a big corporate but I didn't....... Go figure..........

As many have already said, i also never really warmed to the bloke. Had some good games for us, but is yet to develop into a real quality CB. Questions over his attitude/composure on the field.

However, I wonder what his team-mates think? They might not appreciate a popular figure(?) leaving for a rival championship side (Premier League would be seen as understandable/acceptable). It doesn't send out the best signals though.

£4.5m is too good for us to turn down IMHO.

Even if they were offering the same wages I would expect players to choose Leicester over Reading. far greater chance of Premier League football there than here.

The difference is that in 10 years time Mills will be approaching "enforced" retirement (something that I doubt you are).

A footballer's career is short compared to other walks of life so it's no surprise that they tend to place a greater emphasis on the £££
