No honestly, I'm F*CKING delighted we're relying on loans.

I mean, who wouldn't be after (needlessly) selling Mills for millions???

Seriously though the player does actually look good and I look forward to seeing him play for us (well done McDermott), but that's not the point. I do accept we've gone on to buy loan players, but we've also fallen apart when we've wanted a loan player to stay but they've gone away leaving us with a season-shattering hole, so my true non-sarcastic delight will be on hold until if/when the deal is done because I don't want another post-Bertrand situation thank you very much.

The Rectum Crew will of course get horribly hurt by this obvious-as-f*ck observation as will anyone who thinks it's a crime to say anything that might be in any way negative. Tough.

Still as far as the player himself goes, will be nice to have him here!

Bertrand not returning (which was always pretty likely) left us with a season shattering hole? You are aware Harte had a good season, scored double figures and we were in the Play Off Final right?

You could at least try to keep your self-righteous indignation vaguely within the realms of reality.

According to the EP online ("getReading"):

"It is understood that a deal to bring the South Africa international to Madejski Stadium is done in principal."

Oh, Jonny, where's your principles?

However, it did take us two signings to eventually replace him, and one of those is basically a short term fix due to his age.

If we'd been able to buy a successful left back of Bertrands age and type when we tool him on loan then, long term, we'd have been better off. I think that's the point being made.

That would be wonderful if you'd put the negativity on hold for the same duration.

He's here for a stepping stone, soon as he plays well bigger clubs from this division will sign him permanently at the end of the season. Had we signed matt upson then we would have made a massive profit on him.

Does your opinion take his wages, that we would have paid him, into consideration?

As ever, I think you never do, therefore I don't think we'd have made a massive profit on him.

Umm, wages back then were nowhere near as inflated as now. They've quadrupled.

I'm sure one of the reasons why we didn't go for Upson was his wages.

We were never in the running for getting Upson on a permanent basis because our top whack wage was, according to Pardew at a fans forum, only a quarter of what he was on at Arsenal and we couldn't afford anymore.

I'm pretty much in favour of getting short term high quality players in where we need them but I do accept that long term it doesn't always help our development.

I'm really happy about the concept of having a player in the squad who scored at the last world cup. :D

Gave McCarthy a spot of bother from a corner last season as well. With McAnuff, Harte and Howard all still in the squad our set piece delivery should be strong again and could see our centrebacks delivering a few goals.

According to Wiki, Khumalo is 5cm taller and measures in at 1.88m.

Like what happened with Leigertwood, you mean?

I'll never understand why some people feel the need to look for the negative in any situation - why not just try and enjoy yourself on a Saturday afternoon..?

Their are no similarities between the Legiertwood deal and this guy potentially siting with us though.

If you want deals to compare it to then you need to look at the likes of Lee, Upson and Bertrand. I can't think of one young and supposedly improving top flight 'youngster' we've taken on loan and then ended up signing (Harper and Sidwell did go out on loan to other clubs but they were teenage youth products as opposed to recent international signings for a seven figure sum).
