The Glory Days \":(\"
Snowball
The Glory Days Some Reading fans make me laugh. When Matt Mills scored the second goal in the play off final who at this point were calling him a tosser then? I think he was awesome, yeah he gave the ball away by hoooooooooooofing it, but then if he had tried to play it out of defence and lost it then people would have called for his head a lot quicker!

Is that the game where we conceded FOUR goals, you mean, when the defence went missing
and we needed a captain to get a grip of the players?

We may not have been calling Mills a tosser when he scored, what was only, as it turned out,
a consolation goal, but what were we saying or thinking when we went 1-0 down, 2-0 down, 3-0 down
before half-time? Was Matt lavished with praise?

No but unlike a lot of people i wasn't putting blame on him. Admittedly when we needed a captain in the first half he didnt step up, in the second he did. I'm not sure how Mills was at fault for either of the penalty's, Dobbie's strike was just a great finish and sinclairs other was well ... just one of those goals where everything goes a bit wrong. I see Matt Mills as a good player, one who IF he can keep his head will become a good premiership defender

I don't disagree, but can't say he played a captain's
game at Wembley, and I include the goal which is
pretty standard for a CB, from a corner, one every 8-10 games

Quite a good article which may explain Mill's move to Leicester.

We can't compete with that. No wonder we're a small club in this division.

I believe it is. The combination of Leicester city and their money being used to buy players plus the numerous affairs of one Sven Goran Eriksson have been used to humorously mock his efforts in attracting members of the opposite sex.

but we're not a small club in this division, we're very much a top ten club in terms of wages. that's one of the reasons for the annual black hole. we can reduce that deficit by being less competitive, but then how long before we fall down a division again. we mix ambition with sensibility and you can't argue it doesn't work for us. we're a very well run football club and until a rich benefactor comes calling then these remain good times to be a reading fan. some supporters need to get real.

To be fair to the guy, he didn't have to write to the fans like that. The club must've meant a modicum to him at least.

Good for him.

If there is a bit of pantomine booing when they play us over the next few years, I'll probably join in, but on the whole I wish him well. We couldn't turn down £5 million and he couldn't turn down a 7-figure salary.
