Hoop Blah
M-U-R-T-Y Our ratio of cheap potential's successes to flops isn't particularly bad recently.

Off the top of my head...

David Mooney
Alan Bennett

There are probably more.
Williams still has a chance but I can't see how he will break into the first team at all.

Depends what you call recently, and of course who you deem to be a success or a failure.

A few names you might've included if going back to since we won promotion (it's a time when our requirements and resources soared almost overnight). My criteria is non-established players, not just freebies like De La Cruz, who we were buying for the future (so not like Stack who performed his job as backup).

Hit
Andersen (even though he's not played)

Miss
Mate (might only have been a loan actually - do they count?)
Sodje
Bozanic
Vasilev
Thorvaldsson

Maybe
Williams, M
Williams, B
Cummings
Manset

Sure I'm also missing a few more, and the likes of Vasilev and Bozanic are borderline because of their ages. Perhaps if they're in then others like Sigurdsson and Ilugasson should be too (the difference being we signed these two as 18 year olds I think, and paid money for Vasilev too).

id say that record compares more than favourably to any club you care to mention. which is astounding considering mostclubs youd compare to had spent millions on all their flops

NO WAY will Hunt get 15 goals this season for a start.

We've relied for too long on one goal scorer - Long, Siggy, Doyle. We, quite literally, have no-one that we can guarantee will score if Long goes.

Totally agree RL..on here at the moment its like putting coppers together to buy a burger ...and I guess if Long goes, it will be cobbling goals from the unexpected to make up for his departure .....I feel sorry for BM in that he cant invest some of that money to buy an adequate replacement ...will just have to hope that the defence shores up I guess !

the sooner he goes the better im not sure how much more mindless drivel i can read on these threads about Long.

As far as im concerned we are the most successful championship team in its history, we have never finished outside the top 9, and im satisfied with the management team. That means we should do well again next season.

Long stepped up to the plate last season, if he goes another will next season.

Maybe so, but I'm pretty sure it won't be N Hunt nabbing 15 or more goals.

I didn't include those flops we'd signed for decent money or with a more established reputation. The likes of Cisse, Matejovsky, Halford, Fae, Hunt, Kebe, McAnuff, Rasiak, Howard, Tabb etc etc (a mix of hits, misses and maybes).

I'm also not saying that our record is, on the whole, good or bad, but I do think the list above shows that the cheap gambles we've taken since getting promoted have all pretty much failed to make an impact. Conversly I'm pleased to say our youth team have been a lot more successful.

Maybe not but you did say a lot worse about him than simply calling into question his ability to score 15 goals.

Hoop Blah Having said that, one thing that I think we will miss (and the guesstimates above don't seem to take into account) is Longs ability to win penalties by getting just infront or alongside a defender and falling over.

Mine did! I think we can halve the number of penalties we'd get compared to last season if Long goes.

No, I haven't been to a Pre-season friendly in about 10 years. (PLASTIC)

If its that good, I'm on it like a car bonnet!

EDIT: Don't see it myself, guy put in challenge, missed ball, hooked foot infront of HRK, HRK goes down. Pretty routine and an unnecessary challenge.
