Barry the bird boggler Yay. this should now pave the way for Reading to move for an inexperienced defender we've never heard of on a free transfer.

Nothing like immediately spelling out the ambition of the club to fans of the club and rekindling their dwindling interest in attending home games.

Is there a course to go on in order that you can spout rubbish that isn't fact based?

McDermott said he was working on a signing last week. Sonko isn't signing, so it's a good bet that it's a central defender, and it needs to be.

If Long goes then we also need a striker, but let's not get carried away

I think a new LB is in order moreso than a CB

You may not rate them but Reading have 2 left backs on the books + Cummings whose filled in there. Similar with centre backs they have 3 on the books plus Gunnarsson and Harte. If their budget is tight and they can't afford many players it's far more important to fill the absolute neccesity voids in the side. If Long goes then they've lost 20 goals, they need a striker of proven quality.

I would take two of these:
James McFadden: Free transfer.
Matt Tubbs: Less then £650,000.
Danny Ings: Less then £800,000.
Adam La Fondre: £500,000.

Rumour is we are looking at Matt Upson.

Upson would be a brilliant acquisition. Pearce and Morrison would learn so much from him that even if he was only with us for 2 seasons the benefit would be great. Plus, he knows the club, he has a turn of pace and is naturally left footed so will be able to bail out Harte when he goes missing. WCBAFHP though.

id actually imagine that wages would be one of a huge massive oxf*rd list of reasons why matty upson would never ever come back here

Alan Partridge You may not rate them but Reading have 2 left backs on the books + Cummings whose filled in there. Similar with centre backs they have 3 on the books plus Gunnarsson and Harte. Great argument only slightly flawed by Reading also having 5 strikers + HRK, Obita & Taylor all on the books. You may not rate them, but...

Obita is a winger. HRK is a winger come striker. Taylor is an attacking midfielder.

That's why their names appeared in the sentence immediately after "Reading also having 5 strikers plus.......".

I do it well, you shut your face. I still don't see the point in including Obita and Taylor. Neither have been used or possibly should be used as a covering striker

2 left backs plus Cummings is suffice.

You need 5 strikers, Reading will have N Hunt, Church, Manset and Brett Williams available for selection + HRK who is really a winger. Brett Williams isn't a realistic option to play, Marcus Williams is therein lies the slight difference. That's not whether I rate him or not this is a guy that was a taxi driver 6 months ago. Not good enough yet to play at the level.

So Reading will be a striker short.

It's not sufficient if Cummings is playing first choice right back (quite likely by the end of the season) and Williams is considered not good enough.

We have better options at striker, than we do at left back.
