Man Friday
Friday's Legacy good luck shane. you deserve your chance but i'm not expecting it to work out in the premiership. when we meet again in the championship, if indeed we stay here ourselves, you are guaranteed a warm welcome. £6m is mental maths for shane long though. well done hammond on another marvelous piece of business for SJM...

On the basis that it won't be used for the benefit of the club (except of course to help fill the rapidly expanding "black hole").

£250Kish shelled out for Long,Kitson,Doyle,Shorey and Sonko. £15M recouped, who's running this circus?

I heard it was exactly £8 million, no add-ons and most of it upfront.

Good point, although Kitson cost £350k on his own in the end so your numbers are out. You could have added Hunt too.

Good work. 3 weeks now for Squeaky so size up a cheapo replacement who we will sell in 3 years time just as soon as he finally gets good. Make it happen.

Victor Meldrew A good deal for the club and Simon Cox can come to us for £2 million or so.
Incidentally a big whoosh to all of those posters that said he would go to a big club-this is a yo-yo club like Wolves,West Ham,Birmingham etc and will probably be in the dog fight to avoid relegation especially as they haven't addressed their real problem, defence.
They have the same centre-backs and full-backs that struggled last season and previously in The Championship.
Good luck Shane, you will need it,and thanks for getting our club £4.5 million.

 It's a lot more than £4.5m - and (of course) way way more than the £3m you insisted was all we could hope to get. So bigger whoosh to you me old son.

But now I'm thinking about it, did anybody actually ever say he would go to " a big club"? I don't remember that myself.

Ah excellent, even after a positive opening like "Good work", there's always room for a snipe.

Kind of agree with you, VM, as I often find myself doing. Apart from the £2 million signing bit, which seems about as likely as David Cameron presenting a MOBO award.

Not exactly an unreasonable comment though was it, no?

Pleased for Shane and pleased for the club.

Karacan next year, and I'm pleased about that too.

Now we get to watch and wonder who will break through.

Manset. Barring injury, will be shocked if he doesn't make at least 14.

Wild Card is Church, but surely our style will have to change a little
now we don't have 100 MPH tank Shane chasing down defenders

Why are you pleased for the club? I actually find it rather depressing that we have to sell infinite amounts of young talent every summer to cover the huuuuuge defecit that the club has. Still, another genius McDermott find be the end of the month and things will be looking up.

Pretty happy that the 2 players we have sold were 2 players that this time 12 months ago, were regarded as extremely poor players- to make the money we have on average players such as Mills (who put one through his own net) and Long is simply brilliant. However this sale will mean nothing unless we reinvest. Federici to go and I'll be delighted and we'll be shaping up well.

On a personal note, thanks a lot Shane. Whilst I doubted your ability on many occasions, you always put your all into games and you were loyal to the club. All the best

If you trawl back you will find that people suggested that he would go to Newcastle,Everton or Liverpool which was all a bit fanciful.
As for the fee I saw it reported as £4.5 million plus certain extras if targets are met.
With Danny Graham having gone for £3.5 million and IMHO a better player I feel that the club has done well to get more than £3 million for Long.

Plus add ons. We should all support WBA this season as we could get another £1m if they stay up. (So the rumour goes...)

When Lita was bought for £1m (JM making the point it came out of his own pocket, modesty personified) he made the comment about how sick he felt paying so much for 1 player - I wonder how he feels tonight?

LOL at this big attitude about selling to a Championship club.

Seriously, who gives a fvck? Sell him to West Ham, he can help them beat all the bottom-half clubs and give our survival campaign a boost.
