Sonko on TwitteROFL You're talking nonsense, you should not comment on things you're not really sure about. Just ask yourself why Reading haven't signed anybody after selling players for £12m

Like most on here, I think we've dodged a bullet with this one. He is indeed a penalty waiting to happen and has been for a few years now.

This can hardly be a suprise to anyone with half a brain cell. He's a footballer who doesn't give a shit about our club.
I did nothing but cringe whenever the thought of resigning Sonko entered my mind, he's dog shit. To be perfectly honest even in his peak season it was all about his desire and willingness to smash through a crowd just to head a ball clear that disguised the fact that, really, he's actually not a very good footballer.

We forgave him for his refusal to play that time, but it did raise a question mark about his character. We all blamed hate figure Fae for leading him on (assumption there), but it was an atrocious thing for Sonko to have done. I wonder if it was that that made the higher management dubious about taking him on this time?

As long as he joins another championship club, it's 3 points (and a pen) in the bag for us!

Nowhere near the player he was. Not worth the money and really, who discusses their job/contract like that that on twitter...?

Is it because we aren't stupid enough to pay past their prime crocks £15k a week to sit in the stands?

If he actually didn't care about the money and just wanted to play, surely he'd go somewhere at his level where he could be first choice.

Maybe Reading Town seeing as he's in the area.

Lost a LOT of respect for Sonks over the last day. The article where he "felt bad" about earning £20k a week for nothing clearly meant bugger all. I doubt Reading were offering a fiver a week. I'm sure he could comfortably live a footballer's life on what RFC offered. His comment of "i just cant accept that" is a load of crap - a few years ago no Reading players would be on the wages Sonko has probably been offered.

And the fact that the bloke takes to Twitter to voice his opinions of Reading's contract offer is just ridiculous. He seemed to only draw the line at answering questions when someone asked him for exact figures - other than that it was an open Q&A on the greedy life of a footballer. I'm actually all up for the use of modern media for celebs and footballers to engage with the public - i know many football managers and directors etc are not and after this it is plainly evident why. The deal is definitely dead and buried now. He says he loves the club but in my opinion this is one of the most disrespectful things i may have seen from someone trying to get a full time contract. Who, in any job role, does this?

Poor show Ibrahima, poor show.

Sonks pre knee injury against the Blades = legend
Sonks post knee injury = liability

When are we playing Ipswich?

There is no difference between McDermott talking about the contract offer in the EP and Sonko talking about it on Twitter. It's the same thing just through two different types of media.

he raises a very good point though. if budgets are being cut to that extent then we aren't going to attract the type of player to push us upwards and instead will just go backwards. worrying.

Which somewhat begs the question, which two or three players will we sell next year to raise £12M?

Strikes me that Sonko is another of the "where's the money gone" crowd.....

He seems to be saying that because we've pulled in a sizeable chunk of cash, then we should just crack on and pay what he wants, after all we must be able to afford it...

Exactly the same mentality as the WTMG crowd who expect us to rush out and spunk a load of money on players for the sake of it....

What he appears to fail to take into account is that he was likely to be third, if not fourth choice CB, seems to me he was expecting a first/second choice salary.....

he also said the club's offer was less than when he first joined us back in 2004

our wage bill last season vs club income equated to a £4m deficit. long and mills, two of our highest earners are gone, so that £4m should drop to somewhere in the region of £2.7m this season. a player will need to be sold to fill that void, but it doesn't have to be £12m as you suggest.

I do not think for one minute we should have even offered Sonko a contract as I saw the Bristol friendly as was on business there and he was frankly awful but hang on a minute - before everyone keeps orgasaming about this please consider this scenario:

You loose your job and are offered another at your 2004 salary level - any takers from above people who have posted? Forget the footballers wages bit - we know nothing of Sonko's financial position - eg mortgages, outgoings, maybe maintenance etc - most people live up to their income which was c£20K per week at Stoke - he may have been on less than £5k pw in 2004.

Lets also remember that in 2004 we signed Sonko on a free from Brentford (league 2 at time?) and he was initially cover so was prob one of our lowest wage earners at the time.

This puts the club in a poor light and if we didn't want him we should have said thanks but no thanks instead of insulting a former player who was instrumental in 2005/06 season.

I am becoming more disillusioned by the day with the old coot and his stupid wig and his micky mouse voiced side kick and if anyone thinks we will get any quality in before the transfer window you are frankly having a laugh - the best we can hope for is conference south.

but we sold Gylfi and released a number of players to cut the wage bill, which more than covered any £4m deficit. this season we've sold mills which more than covered the £4m deficit. we then went on to sell shane long and still we have relatively small amounts of cash to spend on players. in addition to this, two F.A cup runs and a play-off final. the numbers don't add up, either the club has been lying about the size of the deficit or the money is going somewhere we don't know about.

He doesn't raise a good point. He's bitter because we've told him what he's worth these days.
