Best Reading goal of all time?

by Archie's penalty » 20 Aug 2011 02:01

This old chestnut again. Give me some suggestions and after a couple of days I'll do a poll.

My suggestion: Long against Liverpool January 2010. Brilliant play by Gunnarsson and deft header by our now sadly departed Longy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf_G2_mNsSk 2.25 onwards.

Lita's overhead kick against Palace. The fact that it sealed a 3-2 comeback made it all the more sweeter.

Gylfi's penalty in that game was also absolutely class given the situation. Talking of whom, his goal to send us through at The Hawthorns in extra time was something special too.

I also liked Lita's 30-yarder against Kirkland (also of West Brom, also in the cup, also won 3-2, also in extra time!!). Not saying either are the best of all time though.

Maybe not the 'best' Reading goal of all time...but Lita's winner sealing a 3-2 comeback on the opening day of our Premier League debut was a pretty amazing...more for the emotions that followed I guess.

Absolutely. To make it easier for the newbies, why not retitle this thread "best ever RFC MadStad goal", because Friday's Tranmere effort will simply never be beaten.?

Back to goal 20 yards out, ball comes to Friday, poss chest, then a couple of keepy ups, leaving ball aroud chest height, twisted and caught ball with right foot to shoot ball across shoulder to score what is simply the best ever RFC goal, why was it so good? Because he knew exactly what he was doing, no fluke about it.

What about Dylan Kerr v's stoke in the eary 90's. They were down to 9 men and we hit them on the break. Kerr curled one in using the outside of his foot from about 25 yards.
A peach!

The best one I've seen is Lita against Palace, but I'm a just a babby round here compared to many.

Sigurdsson's 35 yarder was something special against Burton Albion. Kebe vs Middlesborough last season was fairly incredible too.

Billy Whitehurst from 45+ yards against Bolton. Friday's goal was before my time.

More recently we've scored so many great goals but none stand out above the rest.

Best I have seen live is Matejovsky away at Liverpool on the prem.

Honourable mention to McAnuff's dribble and miss on the same ground in the cup. Their own fans felt that would have been one of the best goals to be scored at Anfield had it gone in, and he did all the hard work....

Glad Matejovsky vs Liverpool and Sigs vs Burton get a mention but let's face it, were not going to still be talking about them in thirty years in the way that those who saw THAT goal by Friday still do.

Think that's due more to the media coverage (or lack thereof) when Friday scored. Think that the mystique and exclusiveness of that goal perhaps adds another dimension to it that simply wouldn't happen if it was scored today

I'll be talking about the goals I've seen in 30 years time. The adulation of Friday on here always gets my goat.

There were a few from the record breaking 2005/6 team, which while not individual goals were fantastic team goals due to the speed we seemed to hit teams on the break that year, sometimes giving the appearance of having twice as many players on the pitch as the opposition. One that does stick in my mind that year was from De La Cruz I think, breaking out from the back, a 1-2 with someone I cant remember and finishing brilliantly
