As we speak, i'm sure Stoke fans everywhere are looking disdainfully at their cup final appearance, their extended run in the Premiership, their successful start in Europe and casting an envious eye towards Reading losing at home to Barnsley in front of 15,000 and thinking "why oh why can't that be us"

Oh sure, it is easy to mock, Schards - but you'll be laughing on the other side of your face when they surely go bankrupt some time soon. It is inevitable, clubs are dying every week. Football in this country is like a Youth camp in Norway.

You two can jerk yourself off at this but I don't think anyone has said Stoke are badly run, and people at Stoke have said they're run on our model. They just happen to have not made the mistake we did in our second season and have an owner more able to put extra cash in than Madejski.

might not be badly ran....but how many £millions did they lose on Kits and Sonks alone?

Would you run your own bank affairs like that?

They've spent a fair few million on players, recouping some, but have an £8 million debt. We've had similar debt without spending anywhere near as much on players.

They've certainly made mistakes, as has been pointed out, and they're spending quite a lot. But their owner has something like double Madejski's fortune, and they're staying competitive at the moment. The test for them comes when they get relegated and sooner or later they're probably going to have a bad season and do that.

If they don't go straight back up under that circumstance, it will be very interesting to see what they do next.

Wonderful bloke though Coppell is I think we would not have gone down with a character like Pulis in charge. He would have wrung a few more points out of that season.

I'm beginning to get Floyd and SDR confused. They both love nothing better than a good defeat.

I don't mind a bit of misplaced over-optimistic smugness after a win, but when a defeat brings out "told you so" smugness it really seems time to question people's state of mind. It's an odd way of dealing with disappointment.

It's called a 'discussion' m8, it's just that you don't like most of the very fairly raised points that are coming up. Once again I ask, were you there? If you don't put up then you should definitely shut up.

.....but FFS that was only game 4 of a 46 game season

The only reason they have reported a low debt is because the Coates family have converted most of their actual injections of £40M+ into Share Capital.

Why?

I follow the fortunes of the club closely but choose not to go to games for reasons I have given many times. Like it or not that makes me far better placed to take a dispassionate view of the situation. And believe it or not, a couple of narrow defeats out of 4 games is not a good reason for despondency.

The team has to readjust after losing 2 key players just as it had to adjust and evolve after losing Gylfi. It took time but people stepped up last season and the same will happen this season. But that evolution needs time to happen again.

As for fairly raised points - well, to my mind "Where's the money gone", and "We need new players" type discussions are absolutely pointless at this time and disrespectful to the club's ethos and its managerial and playing staff.

FFS, 4 games in - give them a chance to adapt and grow. It took some time but Long showed what patience and faith could produce. Surely it's too early to forget that message.

These discussions are entirely pointless because all the bluster on this message board is meaningless. Disrespectful? You didn't see the ponderous defending of our painfully slow back four and our toothless attack. Because you weren't there.
