paultheroyal Awesome result for Hartley Wintney managed by our very own Neville Roach.

Well done Whitchurch Utd. Right near my doorstep and that must be a club first to get that far.

..correct assumption there p-t-r - but then again the club (though founded in 1903) only appeared in the lower levels of the Hants leagues in the late 50's, didn't reach the upper levels 'til the mid-80s .... made their debut in the FA Cup in 2000. Then took a break after 03/04 until having another bash THIS season. (I think) - the FC History Database sort of went into hiatus around 06 :| ) .
They haven't been that much better in the Vase - again took a break from 04/05 season - not sure if/when they re-entered that again yet - will have a look later.

Only been the once - nice ground - potential for good food in the Sports Centre but it was Bingo night when we went so they'd only do Chips for the football crowd. Would have been right at the start of season 10/11 I think - nice cross-country drive but I can never get on or off the A34 properly for Whitchurch down there - and always end up driving miles out of my way! :oops: Must be something about that part of Hants - also got terribly lost once trying to find the 'other' Andover Club. ...'Sumas beaten 1-2 @ Larges Lane by North Greenford in the FA Cup this PM - was a fairly close contest but NGU were bigger and fitter in midfield where the game was probably won.

Wokingham could also do with a big fellah at the back if they want to progress beyond STEP05 - today's opponents were just too strong at set-pieces for them.

Crowd today was a bit short of 200 (official 178) so not bad.

..elsewhere in the Cup today Grays Ath beaten by the same score vs Aveley.

Draw for the next round 2nd Qualifying - on Monday - ties w/e 1st October I think?

UPDATE : Just had the briefest of glances at the draw made today - will go thru in depth nearer the time but highlights include:

Hartley Wintney v Bideford
Burnham v Horsham/Lingfield
Maidenhead v Farnboro
Sluff v Boreham Wood
Hallen/Frome v Basingstoke
Thame v Oxford C/Didcot
Chipp'num v Woking
Weymuff/Taunton v Hungerford
Whitchurch v Gloucester City

Balls to that, Maidenhead vs Truro (managed by ex-Royal Lee Hodges) is the place to be tonight.

Think I would rather stick pins in my eyes 8)

On a more serious note, there was a break in at Camberley Town's ground over the last few days. Not much damage / vandalism but a fair few valuables removed.

...I thought the old Chestnut about Trophy Cabinet being broken into; 50p worth of damage etc etc was coming then! :twisted:

...assume their home game in the League Cup vs Farnham still goes ahead tonight?

Very reduced range for me - due to offspring needing 'Dad's Taxi's' and other half getting stroppy about helping out :roll: - so will probably have to settle for 'Stalag Scours' and the visit of the 'Moles' !

TB - be sure to listen out for 'Chas' down at Youngs Drive tonight - he's their very own resident 'Nutter' - you can't miss him - makes 'Drummer Boy' seem reticent.
- though I've got a vague idea he upset someone on the commitee last season and copped a (probably temporary) ban for home games.

His 'forte' is to stay within earshot of one of the linesmen, howling (mostly well-mannered but very loud) abuse at them!

Nice (but small) bar at Ash too - you need to head past the big function room (that is invariably closed/shuttered up on match days?) to the front part of the clubhouse.

Wish I had had the time to read this before the game. Chas was in fine voice - perhaps Ash could loan him to the Mong Stad for some atmos generating :lol: He really was non stop throughout the game. And we drew 1-1 with another Ryan O'Toole penalty. Should have won but we were not at our best by any stretch of the imagination.

1-3 away win, 9 men vs 10, cracking own goal from a goalkeeper, 19 man brawl. Good value for my tenner.

... I ventured over to West 'Ding last night for RTFC 3-1 Binfield - not the expected result but the home side had a good set to with their visitors without it getting too ugly and Binfield just weren't up for it.

... having said that even a well below par 'Moles' missed a host of chances I've seen them convert in their sleep. Home KP by far the busier.

Stand out (of course) for Town was Ray Spence - concentrated on his football and was real handful all night - scored first two goals - Lewis came on for Marcus R and got the third deep in added on time.
Davies (I) scored for Moles - very neat finish but as above missed a clutch of far easier one's.

Caught a glimpse of Gilksey in the bar at HT too.

Weather atrocious.

About to head off for Aldermaston v Overton in the Hants PL - home side scored 10 at the w/e and Overton have been leaking goals all over the shop - so nailed on 0-0 then! :|

Looks like Bracknell can take a break from getting thrashed in the league and get thrashed in the Vase instead!

:lol:

Off to Flackwell Heath v Windsor in the FA Vase. According to the local press, there is a bit of an injury crisis down at Stag Meadow so the line up could be interesting or Keith Scott is trying to hoodwink the oppo. Should be a tough game for Windsor. FH are top of the Hellenic Premier and ripped Nomads a new arsehole a few weeks back. Whereas Windsor are fairly tight at the back, we do need to start hitting the goal trail and convert more chances than we miss. If it goes to a replay, that will be on Monday 26th with a 7.45pm kick off - floodlights / generators permitting :lol:

..the club say they are disputing it and state they'd won the previous case vs HMRC over VAT rates. Now claim its Taxman's fault for not presenting them with a correct Bill! :?
.... hearing due end October...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NL results from yesterday - another 'mixed' bag for our 'local' sides in the Vase. I'll try and unravel next round [on w/e 22nd Oct] opponents for any 'survivors' later on - the FA site is complete sh!te when it comes to keeping up to date and regularly posts the wrong results - particularly for the Vase. I hope I've tracked down the correct one's below -
- one tie I DO know is RTFC now travel to Hellenic Prem rivals Ardley
('we' are at home to the Scummers in the Chumpionship late KO on that Saturday - unfortunately NOT late enough to get anywhere else first - unless there are some dodgy Cup games on in the N.Baaaarks League :wink: ) {see FOOTNOTE} :
FA Vase 2nd Qualifying
Abingdon Town 2-2 Feltham
Kidlington 2-3 Hanworth Villa
Newbury 3-5 Clanfield
Petersfield Town 1-5 Hartley Wintney
Pewsey Vale 0-0 Devizes Town
Reading Town 2-1 Aylesbury United aet att:107
Thame Utd 2-5 Hanwell Town
Whitchurch United 1-2 Fareham Town
Winslow Utd 2-1 Wokingham & Emmbrook - ouch - STEP07 Winslow have beaten 2 Hellenic Prem sides in succession now - now host Ascot's conquerers Buck. Town
Falmouth 7-3 Minehead Town
.... I trawled down and around Brizzle to watch the Vase tie between STEP07 Ashton & Backwell Utd v Fairford Town 0-1 aet (bottom of Hellenic Prem - STEP05). Home side had won their previous 2 home matches both 6-0 and Fairford have the worst defence in the Prem - goals aplenty and an upset methought!
Didn't go according to plan :roll: - got there Ok and club was pleasant enough for this level - nice bar, good Ale, decent cheap 'football food' available from friendly folk.
Game was tedious - home side were hopeless & clueless - Fairford were just crap - only goal of the game scored on 114' by Fairford who celebrated as if they'd got to Wembley!
… and an astonishing turnaround in this division if the website is correct @
Wimborne 5-4 Halesowen – ‘The Yeltz’ were 4-0 up on the hour mark - lost to a 94th minute 5th goal for the home side – who’d lost their previous 4 matches with no goals scored and a GD of -15 !
FOOTNOTE re N.Berks League Fixtures - 'mess' discussed briefly above with AP - this was posted on the League's official site yesterday:-
(...is subject to League Copyright - so I probably shouldn't have posted it - but have removed reference to named individuals ? :shock: )
NORTH BERKS FOOTBALL LEAGUE
EXECUTIVE & EMERGENCY COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO CLUBS 23rd SEPTEMBER 2011
The North Berks Football League Management Committee are greatly concerned at the problems that have arisen regarding our planned fixtures during the first Month of the Season
It is blatantly obvious that The Full-Time Computer Fixture Programme does not allow for local knowledge and experience and has not produced a satisfactory 'provisional' set of fixtures for the season.
Furthermore, it is fairly evident that the role of Fixture Secretary has proved to be a lot more testing than our new Fixture Secretary ****** anticipated. With this in mind Members of The Executive & Emergency Committee recently met with **** to try and iron-out the problems that he has experienced and improve things for the remainder of the Season.
The outcome of the meeting is that an attempt will be made at the earliest possible convenience to completely re-run The Full-Time Fixture Programme which will hopefully produce a more successful and balanced set of fixtures.
On behalf of The League Management Committee, I wish to wholeheartedly apologize for the inconvenience and lack of football that has been provided for the first few weeks of the Season but believe me we are working tirelessly to try and resolve the situation. ******* especially must be thanked for his hardwork on the matter.
... would appear they had successfully helped to arrange of a 'Groundhop' Day yesterday, with over 200 plus 'Anoraks' attending 4 matches around the N.Berks league. KO times were staggered to permit travel between the matches on the Berks/Oxon borders (Steventon, Drayton, Sutton Courtenay and AFC Wallingford were the lucky clubs involved - the first three probably experienced record takings at their bars)
It is getting better though. The Camberley game was abandoned after 23 minutes, the recent youth game almost made it to half time. When do the clocks go back? Joking aside, there is another Monday night game at Stag Meadow next week. The clock is running.
CCL Premier football on a Friday night. As part of Ash Utd's centenary celebrations, their local derby v Cove has been brought forward to this Friday evening - 7.30pm kick off. Friendly club with a very odd supporter in Chas. Non stop solo singing to be expected for the entire game!
