Smalling's goal was a marginal call, but was offside. Nani's goal wasn't. Spacey can you explain where the offside was for Rooney's goal?

SpaceCruiser
FORSTERS_RIGHT_FOOT
SpaceCruiser Does nobody realise that Phil Dowd (yes, the same man who gave Swansea two penalties at Wembley) absolutely oxf*rd up here? Two of Manure goals should have been given as offside and the penalty was a blatant dive by Nani. Not to mention that Chelsea could have been given a penalty when Torres was shoved over.

Linesmans job to rule the offsides, can't blame Dowd for that. It wasn't a dive, there was slight contact, a soft penalty to give that could so easily not been given.

Straws. Clutching.

Clutch this then, is it a coincidence that Dowd is in charge of match where the linesman is conveniently letting two offsides through. I thought the "officals" were a team and that they work together?

I dunno, there's something dodgy about Dowd and I don't like him. At all.

Clutch at this; why was Cole's over the ball challenge on a United player in the 6yd area a, not deemed worthy of a straight red, and b, if a yellow was given then why no penalty?

Yeah - REALLY anti-Chelsea from the ref.....

Not that I agree with his decision however if you watch the replays, I'm pretty sure one of the United players asks Dowd the same question. His response was something along the lines of "the ball was out of play" (pretty easy to lip read).

I also don't think he saw it as he spent a minute or so discussing the incident with his linesman before showing Cole the yellow card.

(Old fan mode on)

I can remember being at Brisbane Road in Branfoot's last game in charge for Reading where Orient were awarded a penalty when a Reading player struck an opponent in the penalty area whilst everyone was waiting for a corner to be taken......

Great game after the torrid Liverpool affair. united ar just too good attacking and without Fwank on the pitch there was little Chelsea could do about it. Torres TBF had a pretty good game, hos goal was excellent. highlight of the game was Smalling shouting his own name as he scored the first

That was what I guessed the reason would be - but you still get a foul if a player is assaulted while the ball is dead, right?

Also, hasn't Andy Johnson made a career out of just getting to the ball before a keeper, hoofing it out of play as the challenge comes in, and getting a penalty??

The fact is, Dowd and the lino bottled it; both the colour of the card (watch it from immediately behind the line - its a real leg breaker) and for the lack of a penalty award.

I thought Chelsea played better after Fwank went off, certainly more pace to the way they played.
