Superb stuff from Napoli again, now five points ahead of last year's champions AC Milan after beating them 3-1. Serious title contenders!

Totally down with that, even accepting all of the "but dude, we're going on the evidence of two games!" caveats --they're in midseason form and playing some righteous football, and Cavani is an absolute terror

LOL @ RM --Di Maria gets a love tap from a Levante man, goes down as though shot, and Khedira comes flying in for a takedown and gets sent off on the spot for his second caution; if anything, the 1-0 flattered Real, and that'll be Valencia top of the league with maximim points from three matches

Just now watched Betis beat Athletic at Bilbao to join Valencia atop the Spanish table

Newly promoted and hard done by relegation from the top flight on the final day of the 2008/9 campaign, Betis look well up for steering clear of relegation jitters this time round on the evidence so far

Oh, and cheerz as always for the Germany knowledge ★ferz --no joy in Gelsenkirchen today I see :|

If Di Maria was bad for falling over easily then Juanfran was worse.

Bit of a soft spot for Napoli. in Serie C1 they had the 3rd highest average attendance in the country. Their highest official attendance that season was 51,000 but if you read up on it they have a tradition of lost of people jumping over walls etc to get in and so it is believed their real attendance was always much higher.

Starfers - Hamburg is a possible destination for a m8's stag do next February and we would be looking to go to the Hamburg v Bayern Munich game when we were there. What's Hamburg like for a night out and how easy would it be to get tickets for the football?

Head to the Reeperbahn, can't go far wrong. When I saw Hamburg the stadium wasn't full to capacity but as it's Bayern who will probably win the league, tickets maybe hard to come by.

Nothing to add to this really other than finding it very hard to believe you'll get tickets at all without a large slice of luck. Hamburg is great great fun for evenings, if that's any consolation. Tom Waits even offers some Reeperbahn advice if you ask him kindly ....

Hmm, cheers both, might need a re-think then as going to the football would be one of the main reasons for going there. One of my m8's gf is fluent in German, so could get her to phone up I guess, to see if that helps.

You could also go to see St. Pauli. The system in Germany is that if there are two professional clubs in one city, they will take turns at playing 'at home' (even if they use different stadiums and are in different leagues). St. Pauli are playing their first home game of the second half of the season sometime between February 10th and 13th (against Bochum), are currently second in the 2. Bl and are possibly the 'coolest' club in Germany to be a fan of. And as the name suggests, the stadium is in the going out area, a catapult shot from the Reeperbahn.

Oh dear Inter, smoked at playoff-promoted Novara 3-1 on Tuesday nite and just about what they deserved

That's a solitary point for them from their first three league matches (plus a loss at home to Trabzonspor) and all eyes on Gasperini now

First win for Novara over Inter since Mussolini was making the trains run on time

Not liking these faux pitches in Italia btw

I think they're alright, seem to be as true as a normal pitch. Bet they will be glad for it come the winter.

What a mess Inter are, changed the side again and were a shambles at the back. If Gasperini is still around come Saturday he surely has to get a win at Bologna as it's Napoli after that!

Standings (P, W, D, L, Pts, F, A)

1 FC Twente 6 5 0 1 15 18 6
2 AZ 6 5 0 1 15 16 4
3 Ajax 6 4 2 0 14 20 9
4 Feyenoord 6 4 2 0 14 15 4
5 PSV 6 3 2 1 11 16 9
6 Vitesse 6 3 1 2 10 12 9
7 RKC Waalwijk 6 3 1 2 10 8 6
8 FC Utrecht 6 2 3 1 9 11 9
9 sc Heerenveen 6 2 2 2 8 12 14
10 FC Groningen 6 2 1 3 7 9 12
11 NEC 6 2 1 3 7 7 10
12 Heracles Almelo 6 1 3 2 6 10 11
13 Roda JC Kerkrade 6 2 0 4 6 5 15
14 De Graafschap 6 1 2 3 5 5 14
15 NAC Breda 6 1 1 4 4 7 11
16 ADO Den Haag 6 1 1 4 4 7 13
17 VVV-Venlo 6 0 3 3 3 6 16
18 Excelsior 6 0 1 5 1 4 16

Excelsior and VVV-Venlo remain winless, while only Feyenoord and Ajax remain unbeaten. Feyenoord's start to the season is somewhat surprising given their completely lacklustre previous season and the fact that they have appointed Holland's answer to Bryan Robson as their manager. Promoted RKC Waalwijk are making a much better fist of things this time around and are punching magnificently, reaching the dizzy heights of 7th.

Top of the scoring charts sit Marc Janko (FC Twente) and Dries Mertens (PSV) on 7 goals apiece.

Not surprised at all, Ranieri is rumoued to be taking over.

Watched Juventus 1-1 Bologna tonight. Juve were comfortable up until after time, then had a man sent off and conceded the equaliser from a corner. All Juve after that with wave after wave of attacks but they couldn't break through.

Noticed Napoli played a reserve side tonight and got punished for it.

Yup canceLOL that paROFLade

Watched that one and had Milan-Udinese on in the background along with Atleti-Hee Haw (Falcao = a very dangerous man)

Also saw RM launch a single shot on target (or two, depending on who's doing the counting) at Santander and walk out with the nil draw

What next from those wacky continentals --Siena take three points home from the Olimpico on Thursday nite?

In other news, those Valencia boys ain't afraid of a damned thing, are they

True, although I wouldn't go to sleep on Cagliari --a too-late rally falling just short at Palermo tonite the only blemish on their record and all that separates them from the joint leaders at the end of this third round of play

Still early doors and all, but wouldn't it be something if none of Madrid, Barcelona, Rome or Milan (and throw in Turin anf Munich whilst we're at it) were to produce a champion come the end of the current season (eh Barca'll win La Liga, but it's still fun to imagine)

2-all it ends at the Mestalla as Cesc levels it on 77', and Betis poised to go top if they beat Zaragoza at home on Thursday
