Seems like a decent go for coppell at forest . he always liked not having to make much effort regarding transfers and he worked under quite similar constraints at reading - always signing a couple of players but very rarely made any groundbreaking transfer activity. I reckon it would be a great move for him

the forest board are very in your face and unsettled both billy davies and steve mcclaren, that really doesn't sound like the sort of relationship coppell likes to work with. it would be a terrific job for him though. they're a big club, but with big clubs come a lack of patience to get it right and get it right sooner rather than later. pass.

+1

Forest have the problem that their fans - and their board - still hark back to Brian Clough, 2 European Cup wins etc, and expect/demand that they are back to that level asap.

This is the difference between ambition and unrealistic expectations, and any manager who goes there will be burdened, and ultimately crushed by it.

Avoid.

Does anyone know of any clubs particularly renowned for causing the sacking of managers i.e. have been the club delivering the final, embarrassing, coup de grace defeat (even if it was the straw that broke the camel's back)?

Mark Robins is in the frame for the Bristol City job. I'm sure that'll go down well.

Can't tell if that's sarcastic or not.. But he's a good manager at this level, bid an excellent job at Barnsley.

You have to feel for Forest fans - they are getting Steve Cotterill as their new manager.

Pompey must be laughing with joy that someone is paying them to take him. Pompey don't have 13k crowds for no reason.......

whilst i agree cotterill isn't a good enough manager, and pompey are better off without him, the reason portsmouth have 13,000 crowds is because they are a similar sized club to us and when you're struggling that is the hardcore fan base. the rest are fairweathers.

to be fair to him that's his first defeat, but i agree it's a strange appointment. o'd is a good manager and for a club like doncaster hard to replace. they've been punching above their weight for a little while now, choose to sack o'd and then show some ill advised ambition on the likes of chimbonda and (did they sign him in the end?) diouf? perhaps if o'd was given that sort of financial backing he could have taken doncaster further.
