next england manager - who do you want?

by Friday's Legacy » 09 Oct 2011 11:23

the sunday papers are reporting that the fa want arsene wenger to replace fabio capello next summer. for me this is a simple decision, especially when the main competition is harry redknapp who is arguably the best english manager at this time, but he has never won a premier league title, and as a mananger only has one fa cup to his honours list.

who though is your choice? and do we have to have to have an english manager?

AN ENGLISH MANAGER

Why do we keep going for the high-profile names?

Stuart Pearce

Knows the England set-up, knows the young players coming through the U21's and NO-ONE can say he will lack passion.

Doesn't really matter. We'll continue to play overrated morons who don't really give a shit and fail at the first challenging hurdle as usual.

Not sure knowing the current England set up is an advantage to be honest.

I can't see Wenger being an option - his football is based on a philosophy and that takes months / years to bed in with the players under his charge. The occasional get-together just wouldn't be enough for it to work, in fact it would only serve to confuse the poor darlings.

We have to be realistic - we are never going to start playing the game how it needs to be played to win things in the 21st Century until the whole philosophy of coaching changes from school kids upwards. Now THAT could be a job Wenger would relish but only if he has power to change things withour reference to the blue blazer brigade.

England manager / head coach? I dunno, someone who is an immensely strong character who doesn't give a fcuk and wouldn't stand any nonsense from the players. Stuart Pearce might fit the bill in some ways but Sam Allardyce is a similar character but with a far better record as a manager. It obviously won't be him but I'd certainly say Allardyce >>> Pearce.

As for Redknapp, his baggage will surely get in the way.

Again, I know it won't happen but I'd rather have Terry Venables and George Graham as joint managers than any of the aforementioned....

I suppose that qualifies Roy Keane to be the next United manger then?

Stick to processing VAT receipts m8.

Somebody like O'Neil wouldn't be bad if he wanted the job.

Probably be Redknapp...the team will be motivated then but he won't be able to "wheel and deal" ofcourse.

O'Neil is good at winning League Cups with average sides when the good sides dont care and good at pissing the Scottish league with Larson up-front but when he was given an opportunity in the Premiership with Villa he failed.

How would you consider to be viable for the job TMD?

Managers who are proven to get the best out of players and have dealt with big egos.

I think Redkanpp is the stand out candidate for me but I also think Moyes could be a good shout.

Brian MeDermott for me. He's good at getting his current crop of players to perform well for 10 games a year, so should be suited to the England job.

They've won a lot more in the English game than English managers to be fair.

International management has little to do with club management, so it seems a waste of time getting in people who have won championships or the shitty champion's league. Just get somebody young in who hasn't messed up yet.

1st choice: Beckham

Worst choice: Allardyce
