Disagree - think Harry is the best choice.

An international manager doesn't have to do a huge amount of coaching (there's not enough time), he just needs to get the players playing as a team, with passion and a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities.

I think Capello just can't relate to the players, and as a result can't clearly communicate what he wants them to do. To be fair to him quite what an Italian with a Kandinsky art collection would find in common with an angry pikey from Croxteth is difficult to imagine.

Whatever Harry's limitations, I do think he "gets" English players, and they would enjoy / respect playing for him.

Surely that first bit is really quite a lot to do with coaching? A significant bit is also the second part there about man management, getting ideas across and getting the best out of the players you have.

I think Harry would probably be quite a decent international manager if he can stop tinkering about too much. He seems to get the best out of a good number of mid to top tier players and he's very much seems to be a players manager. Like AP though I'm not really a fan of his and I do wonder how much the powers that be will shy away from him after getting burnt by El Tel.

Hoddle is a favourite of mine and I think he did an excellent job last time round. Could he come back now? I'm not so sure but we could, and have, done a lot worse.

Anyone who paid a bit of attention to what Pearce did with the U21s over the summer will be hoping he doesn't get close to the job.

Who does that leave? I'm a big fan of O'Neil and had championed his cause when Scolari was being chased. I think he may have burnt his bridges with the FA though but I think he'd also do quite well if given the chance. Hodgson was probably the obvious choice a couple of years ago before his time at Liverpool will have raised serious questions about how he can handle the big ego's with the top English players. Having said that I wouldn't have too much of an issue if he got the chance.

He'll face a similar problem at England because the same questions about is he good enough will be going round the senior pro's. Having failed at Liverpool (not all his own fault, but you do have to question some of the players he brought in) and so he'll immediately have to prove himself to some of leading characters.

Harry will already have most of those players on side because of the character he is, his recent successes with Pompey and Spurs, his reputation as being a good lad etc etc, and not forgetting, he's the media's darling. That last point shouldn't count for much but these players, and the England pubic, do take on board a lot of what the media pump out to us.

I really had issues with the way Sven created a closed shop of his favourites with England and they seemed to all be too cosy. I think they need someone to keep them on their toes. The flip side to that arguement is that Cappello come in with that attitude and it backfired in the tournament because he went too far and stiffled the whole squad.

Tough gig either way!

I'd be upset if Redknapp or Alladyce got it because I can't bloody stand them.

Moyes and O'Neill are good shouts. Hodgson needs to rebuild his reputation a bit more before he can take it. Pardew could do with more time at Newcastle. Rodgers would play a brand of football we can't cope with and needs more experience. Adkins needs top level experience.

If Redknapp didn't have all these dodgy transfer dealings hanging around he'd be a great choice. He likes his teams to play a bit and has an excellent club record. Whoever takes over needs to change the style England play. I want to see them knocking the ball around, play with a bit of flair and not the same old turgid stuff.

Not doubting you but how do you know what he is like "behind the camera"?

I just reckon cos of his dodgy past he'll just be another "el-tel" and the players will see him too much as a geezer than a national manager

I'm actually a Little Englander when it comes to sport and I agree we should have an English manager (the only foreigner I'd want is Mourinho).

But who is good enough? It would destroy someone as likeable as Hodgson.

A manager who has no experience putting a side of quality players together. Players with different attributes to his current lot playing against styles that would embarrass his current side.
