Yesterday, yours truLOLy With about a quarter of the season gone and as matters stand, I don't see a way up and out for Cesena (nor for Granada in Spain, for that matter --although the two have conceded a creditable 12 and 11 times, respectively, thru 9 matches each, but it's looking awfully grim for both)

Yeah well

Santander and Mallorca up next for 'em, and both at home --win both of those and look good doing it, and the gr8 escape may be well and truly on

That was Sevilla's first defeat of the season (and they'd taken the lead inside of sixty seconds), which leaves only Barcelona unbeaten in the division along with Juve, Porto and Benfica among the first and second-rung continental leagues

Big test for Juve Sunday night at the inconsistent Napoli.

soggy biscuit Antonio Cassano to have heart surgery after suffering an ischaemic stroke on Milan's plane home after beating Roma at the weekend.

Strokes are in the brain, why operate on the heart...

It was just an ischiaemic attack - angina in other words or a heart attack if serious enough

Well summed up here:

AC Milan have confirmed that Antonio Cassano will require "minor" heart surgery after being struck down with a mystery illness following Saturday's 3-2 win over Roma.

Cassano was taken to Milan's Policlinico hospital for a series of tests after suddenly developing problems with his vision, speech and movement on the team plane following the match in Rome.

The initial series of examinations failed to diagnose the problem but it has now been revealed that Cassano suffered ischemic-based cerebral damage and will undergo an operation this week that will keep the 29-year-old out of action until next year.

A statement from AC Milan read: "The cause was identified as the presence of a patent foramen ovale septal heart, detectable only with sophisticated specialised tests. The timing of therapy established has allowed a rapid recovery and an improvement of clinical conditions that are good.

"In the coming days the player will undergo a small surgical intervention cardiology (closure of the foramen ovale), the recovery time for return to playing will be better defined after the surgery, but probably will be a few months."

Really good match between Madrid and Valencia last night. Great finishes by Ronaldo, Benzema and Soldado, controversy, tough tackling, Jose doing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICG0PNHVp1c and Casillas doing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt0LpYbiLQU.

COLOGNE, Germany — A referee in Germany’s Bundesliga was found bleeding in his hotel bathtub following an apparent suicide attempt hours before he was due to take charge of Saturday’s game between Cologne and Mainz.

The game was postponed when Babak Rafati was found in his hotel room earlier Saturday “after sustaining injuries with no sign of any involvement by a third party,” Cologne police spokesman Andre Fassbender told The Associated Preess.

“It certainly looks like (a suicide attempt), yes,” Fassbender said.

German Football Federation (DFB) president Theo Zwanziger said Rafati’s condition was stable but that he would need “intensive treatment” and be hospitalized for some time.

Di Maria makes Kebe look like a hard man and rivals him in the frustrating to watch category as well. Atleti keeper off and Ronaldo scores the penalty. Atleti look like they're on to a loser yet again.

He pulled through in the end. Someone touched his chest and I thought he'd died, it was a close one.

Yeah, it's a shame about the sending off. Could have been a really good game, can't see any way back for Athletico now.

Another win for AC Milan to round off the latest round of Serie A matches. Elsewhere Udinese and Palermo kept up they're superb winning home form while Juventus won the big game at Lazio and at the bottom Cesena made it two wins in a row at home to Genoa.

Bit gutted i'm going to have to watch a rerun of the rearranged Napoli v Juventus instead of live on Tuesday to see how good this Juve side are. Think they're the team to challenge AC Milan who do have an easy run of fixtures up until the winter break.

I watched Juve v Palermo recently, I wasn't impressed.

They didn't have to work that hard it that one, Palermo are yet to even score away from home. Have just caught up with Lazio v Juventus and they are definitely title contenders, superb game!
